I think Christmas in London is arguably one of the best times of the year in the city! This year’s been extra special as it’s the first Christmas season in my new flat! I had fun putting up the tree while listening to all the Christmas classics on my Momentum 4 wireless headphones (Ad).

🎆 Carnaby Street Christmas Lights – Creative themed lighting displays and boutique shopping.

1️⃣ Start in Oaxaca City for Christmas
Oaxaca is already a colourful vibrant place at any time of year, but add in Christmas lights, decorations, and Christmas parades on top and you’ve got yourself the perfect getaway. December is also one of the best times of year to visit weather wise as it dry season and since Oaxaca city is at a higher altitude, the temps will be slightly cooler than the coast. Average December temps will be 15-20°C so make sure to pack layers. While you’re in the city, a quick day trip to Hierve el Agua is a must. The calcified “waterfalls” and natural pools look unreal in person.
2️⃣ Head to Puerto Escondido for New Year’s
After getting your fix of city life, it’s time to head to the beach! Puerto Escondido is famous for its surfing, seafood, and perfect mix of laid back beach and party vibes - the perfect spot to spend NYE. again, December is dry season and since you’re on the coast, temps will be higher around 85°F / 29°C. Thanks to the new mountain highway, you can now reach Puerto Escondido from Oaxaca City in just a few hours on the ADO bus, no more all-day slog.

It’s funny how decisions that seem so minuscule at the time can lead to the biggest life changes. In 2009 I was graduating from college and starting my career at one of the Big 4. We were all given the opportunity to submit applications to do our 2 weeks of onboarding training internationally in Rome.
I remember so vividly the day it was due I was feeling horrendously hungover because, senior year, duh. I almost didn’t submit it and who knows what that would’ve meant for life 🤷🏼♀️
At that training I instantly connected with girls from the London office, applied for a transfer 3 years later, and the rest is history.
I’m sure probably helped cure my hangover and got me over the hump so shout out to you too 😂

Go to Hierve el Agua they said, it will be fun they said. And you know what, had it not been 12°C with 25 mph winds, it would’ve been absolutely perfect, but hey, we still had fun. ( captured the experience perfectly 📸 😂)
If you’re in Oaxaca, definitely put Hierve el Agua on your list. It’s is a set of mineral springs tucked into the mountains about 1.5–2 hours from Oaxaca City, famous for its “frozen” waterfalls, huge white rock formations created by centuries of mineral build-up. You can swim in the natural pools, hike along the cliffside trails, and enjoy some food from local vendors.
It’s an easy, no-stress day trip from Oaxaca. Hop in a colectivo, join a tour, or rent a car and go at your own pace. Either way, you’ll be back in Oaxaca in time for tlayudas and cocktails, which is exactly how all good day trips should end.
