Emperor penguins are the largest penguins in the world, with an average size of 1.20m and weighing 40kg. They live together in colonies and are the only species of penguins breeding on the sea-ice in bitterly cold conditions. This makes them extremely difficult to reach. This single bird likely got away from his colony at some point, waiting for a strong current to bring him back home.
