I was recently called courageous. Not a word I had felt described me as I didnβt think many of the things I was choosing for myself to be that out of the ordinary.
What I can say for sure is knowing I had a big enough passion to train others through life would allow me to succeed. I never thought I couldnβt train people for a living. I love to constantly learn and motivate others.
But leaving a decade in corporate insurance had me overthinking everything.

Hereβs why you should be doing them π
β’ Build power + speed β short, steep hills recruit fast-twitch muscle fibers without the joint stress of flat sprinting
β’ Improve running economy β better force into the ground = faster pace for the same effort
β’ Strengthen key muscles β glutes, calves, hamstrings, and core all get stronger
β’ Lower injury risk β hills naturally limit over-striding and reduce impact forces
How long should hill sprints be?
π 8β12 seconds (all-out but controlled)
π Walk back down for full recovery
π Start with 4β6 reps, build to 8β10 over time
Can you attach them to another workout?
Yesβand thatβs often best.
β Add them after an easy run
β Or at the end of a tempo or steady run as βneuromuscular finishersβ
β Avoid adding them after a hard interval day or long run
Think of hill sprints as speed training without the wear and tear π₯#hillsprints #runningprogram #runner #runfast #torontopersonaltrainer
As someone who has chosen a career in fitness and coaching, Iβve had my fair share of ups and downs. Imposter syndrome because Iβm not the fastest nor a marathoner, or because I donβt lift the heaviest or am able to workout everyday.
Running is a tough sport. Mentally and physically. Here are my 5 running truths:
πββοΈ I love to compare myself to other runners. Itβs a way I personally stay motivated but it can be toxic! I figure if weβre around the same age I should be able to run as much. This really gets to me when I look at marathoners mileage versus mine. How does one hit 150km+ weeks?! I try to stay cool in my 30-45km ranges, but just being honest!
πββοΈthe vanity of running is partially why Iβm in it. It keeps weight off and you feeling more energized. If it wasnβt so good at burning calories I think Iβd be less interested.
πββοΈ I feel slow af if Iβm anywhere around a 6 minute km. I have worked so hard to get fast but my zone 2 is still around 6. Itβs discouraging after so many years of work and honestly Iβm not proud of it!
πββοΈ my body is chronically in pain. I seem to have heightened responses to soreness and I try to push as hard as I can. However running and strength training really burn me to the ground. Instead of listening to others training plans, I try to stay in my own lane.
πββοΈ even though all I do is strength train for running, I definitely get injured. I spiral about injuries because I truly think I am prioritizing strength as much as possible. Although injuries are bound to happen I feel like I need to be perfect!

As a run and strength coach for 9 years now, Iβd like to say Iβve developed quite the plan for training.
Granted, this plan is for me and my goals and where I am at today. I wouldnβt have been able to just pick up and start training like this years ago. BUT everything here is able to fit to size.
Happy to always help with a program but this split is the perfect blend of:
β 3 runs per week
β 2 strength days
β 2 rest days
Catch me 3 years ago crushing 5 strength days per week. Iβve pivoted to more cardio but I do find 5 workouts a week are attainable for me.

When it comes to running, Iβd like to think I know some pretty amazing tips with staying on track. But letβs review some outliers today:
PS happy new year, letβs go get those PBs baby!!!
π€ you must actually enjoy running to succeed. Just because you see friends and others doing it doesnβt mean itβs right for you. There is a reason I personally donβt do Pilates and itβs simply because itβs not MY vibe. I love doing what I feel good at and for me that is running and strength training.
π€ I am absolutely a broken record with this one but PLEASE run with a plan for 3-5 months out. This keeps you motivated and following a progressive plan!
π€ maybe youβre someone who gets bored of long and easy runs. There are tons of ways to spice up your journey, whether thatβs with stride pick ups, interval workouts, sprints, or hills!
π€ join a group or find a running buddy. If thatβs out of the question, find a killer playlist or podcast to get you excited to get moving!
π€ lastly I want you to remember consistency above all else. Training regularly (2-5x) a week will get you amazing results. I personally run 3x and strength train twice!
Hope this helps! MSG me with your questions or comment below! #howtorun #runnergirls #torontopersonaltrainer #2026resolutions
Iβve ran consistently these past 52 weeks and have accomplished quite a bit:
βοΈ stayed injury free
βοΈ improved my leg and core strength
βοΈ shaved off 6+ mins on my 5km time
βοΈ shaved off about 8 from my 10km time
βοΈ ran a half marathon in 1:57 (lots of potential here now that Iβve worked so hard on the speed stuff!!)
Running into 2026 with a plan is one of the best ways to set yourself for success!
What have you accomplished? #runcoach #howtorun #runnergirl #running
Hereβs what the data actually means β
π 1. Readiness scores combine multiple signals
Most wearables blend sleep, HRV, resting HR, recovery trends, and stress.
A low score doesnβt mean youβre βunfit to trainβ β it means your body may be under higher load than usual.
π€ 2. Poor sleep affects performance, but not all movement
A low sleep score often predicts reduced speed, coordination, and intensity tolerance β
but easy, low-stress aerobic work is usually still fine if you feel okay.
π« 3. HRV (Heart Rate Variability) is a stress indicator, not a ban on exercise
Low HRV means your system is leaning sympathetic (stress mode).
This can happen from: training load, hormones, dehydration, travel, sickness brewing, or even mental stress.
It signals that high-intensity training may not be ideal, not that all running is unsafe.
𧩠4. Use objective data + subjective feedback
Research shows combining wearables with how you feel is more accurate than either on its own.
Ask yourself:
β’ Do my legs feel heavy?
β’ Am I unusually tired?
β’ Am I fighting off an illness?
β’ Does an easy warm-up feel normal?
If your body feels fine β adjust intensity.
If your body also feels off β prioritize recovery.
πββοΈ 5. Scale the session, donβt skip the day
On low-readiness days, shift to:
β’ Easy conversational running
β’ Shorter durations
β’ Walk-run combos
β’ Mobility + technique
β’ Aerobic base miles
These support fitness without adding unnecessary stress.
π 6. Consistency matters more than perfect metrics
Your wearable provides data trends, not rules.
Training smart = honoring recovery signals and staying active in a sustainable way.
