On a T-bar row with an outboard weight, the load is levered against your grip, meaning the weight at your hands is heavier than what’s on the bar. A single 45-lb plate can feel closer to ~55 lb in practical terms.

For reference, a four-plate row ends up being closer to ~260 lb at the hands, and a five-plate row around ~310 lb. This mainly applies to machines like Icarian or Precor rows—other row machines will differ—but it gives you a solid frame of reference for understanding how leverage changes the real load you’re moving.
