A police memo book is an essential tool in policing.

It is an official record used to document observations, investigations, arrests, and significant events.

These notes may later be relied upon as evidence, used to refresh memory for court, and are subject to retention and disclosure requirements. That’s why Toronto Police Service officers are required to carry and properly maintain their memo books or approved electronic note systems while on duty.

Clear communication and accurate documentation are critical policing skills.
