私が山で出会うクマは、皆ひっそりと穏やかに暮らしていた。そして、その傍にはいつも自然の恵みがあった。
春には草や木の芽を食べて
夏には木陰で眠り
秋にはたくさんの木の実を食べる
ブナたちが生き急いでいるという。
樹木は私たちよりも遥かに寿命が長く、「樹木の死」と聞いてもあまり実感が湧かないと思う。
ただ、近年の夏の異常さから、みなさんも薄々感じているのではないか。
気候変動による気温上昇により、数十年後には現在のブナ林は生息適地から外れ、自然消滅するという予測も出ている。
ブナだけでなく、ミズナラの豊凶の周期も短くなってきている。樹木は歩くことができない。気温上昇から逃れるために種子生産量を増やし、子孫を少しでも遠くの地へ移動させようとしているのだろうか。
知りたいことはまだまだたくさんある。
