I went to Inage to pick up a very specific piece of gardening equipment, and saw there was a cafe nearby! (although it appears as Inagurashi on Google Maps) is entirely vegan, housed inside an old-school Japanese home, and even has some treats, spices and other goods you can purchase by weight ⭐️
The lunch set’s croquettes were delightfully crunchy, and the bamboo shoots flavored with sansho (mountain pepper) for a refined kick (¥1400)

After hiking around the mountains of Hanno, we always stop for lunch (and a quick buying trip at the shop) at the venerable Alishan 💚
The food always tastes good AND good for you, and I also enjoyed one of their delicious brownies for dessert. Sitting on the terrace looking at the river and enjoying vegan food after a hike… how truly blessed my life is.
🚇: Koma Station (Saitama Prefecture)
🌱: 100% vegan

has a little outpost in the JAL domestic terminal, where they have a few vegan sandwiches, light meals and treats 💚
This vegan ham sandwich is actually surprisingly good, as the veggies are marinated in oil and herbs. Not the most exciting meal of my life, but definitely appreciated as I didn’t have time to eat before leaving 🫠
✈️: Haneda Airport Terminal 1 (after security check)
🌱: a few vegan options, including their “butter sand” cookies

Today the lunch sets were not available, so I splashed out on two main dishes: their iconic karaage (fried “chicken”) with tartare sauce and the “shrimp” in chili sauce 🌶️❤️
Both were excellent, and a bunch of their new menu items also looked delicious… something to look forward to for next time!
🚇: Shibuya Station
🌱: 100% vegan
I went to this rather fancy shojin ryori (temple cuisine) restaurant several months ago, and was quite impressed. They offer both a vegan and non-vegan menu, and I like how while the chef does the classics very well, he also plays a little with expectations (like topping fried yuba with avocado)❤️
It was surprisingly relaxed for such a high end meal, which I appreciate as I don’t like overly traditional, stuffy restaurants🤣
🚇: Roppongi Station (Tokyo)
🌱: they offer several courses, including several vegan ones. Make sure to choose that option when booking online

Sorry for the lack of posts, between the craziness of Christmas gig season, fracturing my foot and finding out I need to shell out a lot of money for dental work, my food budget has taken a hit 😭
But here is a longtime vegan AND gluten-free favorite spot of mine, Marbre in Shinjuku 💚 my friend introduced me to it, and I have taken so many other folks there since.
The cakes are delightful, with both traditional and seasonal options ✨
🚇: Shinjuku Station or Shinjuku-sanchome Station
🌱: 100% vegan with lots of gluten-free options

I used to go to Sora No Iro NIPPON at least once a week, and today stopped by for the first time in several years💕
I have always been impressed by their unique take on the ramen broth, creating something new rather than imitating “regular” ramen. This Tantan version (¥1700) has a rich, creamy mushroom base, with lots of umami and a great butteriness from the pine nuts. The vegan potstickers (¥650) are also good, although mine were served a bit cold.
🚇: Tokyo Station, in the Ramen Street area inside the station
🌱: two vegan ramen options and vegan gyoza

I had no idea! But it was perfect timing, as I needed something warm and soupy to soothe my throat after a long recording session. I tried the special Lanzhou Ramen (¥1540), which has rice noodles, a ton of mala spice and a deeply umami-rich broth. The date vinegar on the side adds a really nice kick too!
🚇: Ikebukuro Station, INSIDE the JR gates (between platform 6 and 7)
🍃: 100% vegan

It’s been a while since I stopped by T’s in Jiyugaoka, and was pleasantly surprised to see they have updated their menu and are offering some really tasty looking seasonal specials ❤️
🌱: 100% vegan

While Japanese cuisine is not known for being very vegetarian or vegan friendly (fish stock in many things for starters) there is a growing vegan scene in many of the major cities.
