The truth is… it depends on which street you decide to turn into.
One minute you’re standing in front of a futuristic house that looks like it landed from another planet.
A few train stops later, you’re lost in an alley where a strange character rides past as if he escaped from a movie set. Then suddenly you’re surrounded by centuries of history in Asakusa, before finding yourself back among glass towers and endless crowds in Shinjuku. Tokyo isn’t one city. It’s hundreds of small worlds stitched together. And that’s probably why, after all these years, I still haven’t finished exploring it.

- Six villes, un seul Tokyo -

On me demande souvent à quoi ressemble Tokyo. La vérité, c’est que tout dépend de la rue dans laquelle vous décidez de tourner. Une minute, vous vous retrouvez devant une maison futuriste qui semble avoir atterri d’une autre planète. Quelques stations plus loin, vous êtes perdu dans une ruelle où un personnage improbable traverse la scène comme s’il s’était échappé d’un film. Puis soudain, vous voilà entouré de plusieurs siècles d’histoire à Asakusa, avant de replonger dans les tours de verre et les foules infinies de Shinjuku.
Tokyo n’est pas une seule ville. C’est une multitude de petits univers cousus les uns aux autres. Et c’est probablement pour cela qu’après toutes ces années, j’ai encore l’impression de ne connaître qu’une petite partie de cette ville. Quel est l’endroit qui vous a le plus surpris lors d’un voyage?

数駅先では映画の登場人物のような人が路地を自転車で走り抜けていく。そして気づけば浅草の歴史ある街並みに立ち、その後には新宿の高層ビルと人の波の中へ戻っている。東京は一つの街ではありません。たくさんの小さな世界が集まってできた街です。だから何年住んでいても、まだ知らない東京に出会える気がするのです。

Walking through these streets, I couldn’t help but wonder how many generations had watched the same clouds drift above these rooftops. Some things change overnight. Others survive for centuries.

Maybe luxury isn’t about having more anymore.
Maybe it’s simply about finding a place where time still moves slowly.

There is something special about Tokyo just before a storm.

The air feels heavier, the streets become quieter, and the city starts reflecting itself in every puddle. Neon lights blur into the rain, umbrellas appear like floating lanterns, and familiar places suddenly feel like scenes from another world.

With a typhoon approaching in a few days, these photos remind me that Tokyo is at its most cinematic when the weather turns bad. A city that never stops moving, yet somehow feels strangely peaceful under the rain.

Maybe that’s why I always find myself going out with a camera when everyone else is heading home.

Il y a quelque chose de particulier à Tokyo juste avant une tempête.
.
L’air semble plus lourd, les rues deviennent plus silencieuses et la ville commence à se refléter dans chaque flaque d’eau. Les néons se mélangent à la pluie, les parapluies flottent comme des lanternes et les lieux les plus familiers prennent soudain des allures d’un autre monde.
.
Avec un typhon annoncé dans quelques jours, ces images me rappellent que Tokyo est sans doute à son apogée lorsque le mauvais temps s’installe. Une ville qui ne s’arrête jamais, mais qui semble pourtant étrangement paisible sous la pluie.
.
C’est peut-être pour cela que je me retrouve toujours dehors avec mon appareil photo quand tout le monde rentre se mettre à l’abri.

数日後に台風が近づいている今、この写真を見ると改めて思います。東京は天気が崩れた時こそ、最も映画のような街になるのではないかと。

Spring in Japan is not only about cherry blossoms.

Sometimes, the most memorable moments are the unexpected ones.
.
While everyone was looking up at the sakura, these two cats had found the perfect place to spend the evening. Resting quietly beneath the lanterns, surrounded by petals and soft colors, they seemed completely unaware of the crowds around them.
.
For a few seconds, the noise disappeared, and all that remained was a small scene of peace hidden in the middle of Tokyo.

Le printemps au Japon ne se résume pas uniquement aux cerisiers en fleurs.

Parfois, les souvenirs les plus marquants sont ceux auxquels on ne s’attendait pas.

Alors que tout le monde levait les yeux vers les sakura, ces deux chats avaient trouvé l’endroit parfait pour passer la soirée. Installés tranquillement sous les lanternes, entourés de pétales et de couleurs douces, ils semblaient totalement indifférents à l’agitation qui les entourait.

Pendant quelques secondes, le bruit de la ville a disparu, laissant place à une petite scène de tranquillité cachée au cœur de Tokyo.
