I went on my first ever ski trip this time last year. Literally this time last year. I was absolutely delighted to win a trip to Bulgaria in a competition, and the package included lessons during my trip.
Prior to this, I’d only put on skis once. In 2023, the brought a few creators to and we enjoyed an hour-long lesson. Thankfully a beginner lesson, as I couldn’t even get down the beginner slope without tangling my skis together!
So my trip to Bankso was almost something completely new to me. I’d never been around proper snow (bar the small bit in Ireland we get every few years). And after getting the gondola up the mountain on my first morning, it seemed so daunting to think I’d be skiing back down again. Thankfully, I picked up the beginner lessons quite quickly and even though there was a ski lift down the mountain, I made sure to ski the whole way back to the town each evening.
Even though I had the basics, I just wasn’t confident in my ability. I was terrified of getting in someone else's way and causing an accident. So, it wasn’t until my last day that I finally braved a blue slope. These started from higher up the mountain and the views were absolutely incredible - like nothing I’d ever seen before. While I was so nervous doing that slope, I was disappointed in myself for not going this high up earlier. For not being more confident in my skiing. And there was a solution to that which I’d missed out on - doing ski lessons BEFORE my trip.
The Ski Club of Ireland offers everything from beginner to improver lessons all the way to advanced as well as practice sessions. And I think doing this before your first trip would be an absolute game-changer.
I was delighted to return to the club this year once again with for another lesson. Standing on the slope, I was terrified - convinced I’d forgotten how to ski and worrying that I’d embarrass myself but instead, within a few minutes my confidence began to grow and I realised, another ski trip would have to be on the cards in the next two years or two 🤩

But there’s something really special about getting outside for a shorter walk in the crisp, fresh air. Especially on a cold day.
One lovely stretch we recommend is the Leitrim Village to Drumshanbo trail (around 7km one way).
It follows the water and of course… the highlight has to be crossing the floating boardwalk just outside Drumshanbo 💙
With the clear, still water beneath you and the lake stretching out around you, it’s one of those moments where you'll want to stop and take it all in.
You don’t have to “do it all” to enjoy the Leitrim Way. Even a small section can be enough to blow the cobwebs away and remind you how gorgeous this part of the world is.

It took me a while to get here. The craving to move east started quite a few years ago. Back when I lived in Connemara. I LOVED it there, but I felt so far away from everyone. So isolated. My favourite place on earth began to feel incredibly lonely. I couldn't understand why anyone would choose Dublin over Galway, but it seemed people were happy there, and it made me wonder why.
Dublin had always seemed cold to me. Cold, grey, concrete. It turns out it’s not half as grey as the west coast though, because Dublin actually experiences blue skies, quite often!
I’ve lived here a year, but I hadn't quite played tourist yet. So that was how I was to celebrate - I was going to be a tourist in my own city.
-Dublin Castle: I actually thought I’d be underwhelmed but I loved it. I did the self guided tour which cost me 8 euro. I was given a booklet upon entering and it was great. It outlined each room including all the paintings so I flicked through it as I made my way around. I was left in awe by the beauty of the place. Definitely not your “stereotypical” Irish castle but well worth the visit.
-Next headed to Trinity for The Book of Kells - mad I’d never been. Right now the books have been removed from the library and the room is due to close in 2026 as part of a restoration project. This wasn’t quite as exciting as I thought it was going to be but it was good to tick it off my list.
-As a tourist, I had to eat somewhere touristy! So I headed to Cloud Nine for crepes and despite the fact someone might think this was a bit of a tourist trap, it was actually so good!
-Epic was next on the list and this place is HUGE! You could spend the whole day here if you wanted to read everything. I found this experience really emotional and more than once my eyes filled with tears reading about a person from the past.
Did I go to the Temple Bar - yes. Did I last long in there? NO. But sure look, I did it!
It was amazing to get the opportunity to stay in. It's so gorgeous (#gifted)
There is something so comforting about sitting by the window here. During one of my few visits, the Wild Atlantic Way lived up to its name, the wind was howling and the rain was lashing against the glass. But inside? It was pure cosy magic.

People always say you need sunny weather to visit the islands, but honestly? I think you need to see them like this to really understand them.
I took a trip to the Wormhole (Poll na bPéist) on Inis Mór in the off season and the weather was wild. It was windy, rainy, and the ocean was roaring it was exactly what the Wild Atlantic Way is supposed to be about.
There’s something so powerful about standing near the edge of the island looking down on this natural rectangular pool and watching the Atlantic Ocean crash against it. It’s raw, it’s loud, and it makes you feel completely alive.
Don’t let the winter weather put you off. Wrap up warm, embrace the rain, and go witness the sheer power of nature.

The Talbot Hotel - the perfect location in the heart of it all. Lovely spacious rooms and had a delicous dinner in the restaurant - the cocktails in the Ballast Bar were also divine!

Your geodome is perched on the edge of some cliffs overlooking the atlantic - so it’s a lovely sunset location too, the light was stunning! There’s an open plan living area and bedroom and a bathroom. Now if you want to bring a third wheel or two, there’s 2 single beds up on a mezzanine overlooking the living area.
And the most MAGICAL PART? There’s a star gazing hatch in the ceiling.So you can literally fall asleep under the starlit sky! – by the way there’s also a prime star- watching spot in the outdoor hot tub!

This is Magpie bakery in Galway City and it is the bakery of dreams! Prepare to queue cuz this is a popular one with locals and they sell out FAST.
Inside you’ll find a huge range of fresh breads as well as sweet and savoury pastries (and of course, coffee!).
We got the strawberry maritozzi, a pain au chocolat, caramel and pecan croissant and a cheesecake danish and just lOOOOK AT THEM ALLLLLLLL.
I cannot put words on how delicious this all was. I am planning a return visit to Galway asap to go back and even more than usual, I am contemplating a move back to the city so I can go here weekly!
