Last August, I had to pleasure to teach at the Burghausen Summer Jazzworkshop - on the first day we had placement auditions for the ensembles. Well, a 19-year old Portuguese vibraphonist named Diogo Azevedo walked into the room. I asked him “What song would you like to play?” - he said, “Nobody Else But Me” (a rare Jerome Kern standard)…and it took about 2 notes to hear that he could seriously play! Throughout the week, we jammed, hung out, played music and talked about music and life…He was so impressive that he was invited to perform at a jazz club in the north of Germany (in Minden) and so I offered to organize a concert for him in Munich at Vogler. His ENTIRE band is flying in from Portugal and will perform this Friday, and then travel to Minden on Saturday. Come on out and support the future of music! These guys are playing with fire and inspiration that give me hope for the future. Reservations highly recommended! I will sit in on a couple of tunes as well, but mostly just enjoy the music myself:)
