Remembering my most special superhero on National Superhero Day. I really hope she knew just how super she was. From a scaredy little shelter pup, to a confident, sweet and sassy girl, living every day like it was the best day ever. She changed my whole world. 🤍 I will always miss you, Tilley. My tiniest yet mightiest little soulmate. 🤍

Happy Heavenly Birthday, my girl. Today you would have turned 11-ish (a chosen birthday so we could celebrate both a birthday *and* your adoption day.) you would have been miserable with the return of the cold, it's a windchill of -22C this morning, but we would have stayed snuggly and warm. We would have practiced some of our favourite tricks, since playing together and earning treats made you so happy..

I have thousands of pictures of you, this is just a small handful of some random special moments that we shared.

I miss you so much and will love you always.

The Final Countdown. (Our last days together)

I will forever be angry at the disease that stole you away from me years too soon. I am angry that you (we) were so cruelly chosen to go through this. You were stripped of your pure joy and excitement for life while you were so much alive. You put in so much fight. You've always been a tough cookie. Thank you for sticking it out for as long as you did, I am forever grateful for every moment we spent together, all our years together, but especially in those last weeks and days. I knew you were living for me in those final weeks, and fighting so hard to stay.

I remember it all so vividly. Not sleeping because I wanted to check on you. Your breathing took all your energy. Your love of all things food went away. You were losing weight. My touch that you used to crave seemed to become uncomfortable as the illness progressed, at the same time all I wanted was to be close to you, and hold you.

My garden feels empty without you sitting there blinking in the sunshine. I miss skateboarding with you, it was so much fun when you would chase me with those impressive leaps and bounces, ready for your turn... so many summer things we did together, it was "our" season, and now my joy for these things we shared is just gone.

You seemed to accept what was coming. I still couldn't accept that I was losing you.

Stripping away all your cool tricks, you were still the sweetest little dog I've ever had a chance to share my life with. You had a giant heart and you loved SO big. You were a soulmate. I was never a little dog person, but you were such a giant personality, way larger than life itself. You changed my whole world.

I can only think that it's not the end for you, this life with me and all of our adventures together were just a stepping stone on your great journey to something even greater. You deserve the world, my girl.

I really hope I never hear the words 'Evans Syndrome' ever again. I never saw this one coming. And I will always wonder, why us?

For some dogs, ball is life. For Tilley it didn't come naturally - fetch, pick up, retrieve and catch were all taught with rewards. But she learned to love ball time, and they were incorporated into more complex tricks, like putting them into cups. Tilley always seemed like she was working on a great big puzzle... trying to figure everything out.

If you make it to the end of this video, the final series of clips were taken only 5 days before we had to say goodbye. She was refusing most food, exhausted and struggling with her laboured breathing. But I pulled out her old tennis balls, and all she wanted to do was to play with me. Just like we used to.

One behaviour I did *not* teach her, was putting the ball on her skateboard while she rides (her own mashup of multiple learned skills). The other she has done right from her early days... two, three, or even 23 of the xs squeaky tennis balls... she would hold one while using her front paws to kick around the rest. When one would shoot out at random, she would excitedly give chase. It was her own made up game, and I loved watching her play.

I have a bag full of these tiny tennis balls, if any "local littles" are interested (pre-loved but still squeaky). 🎾🤍

I miss your company. I miss you trying to catch all the high speed sniffs on our bike rides together, your little paws on my shoulders and pulling my hair. Undecided if the smells were better on the left side of the trail, or the right, or maybe it was the left after all... You took in everything and loved these joyful rides, I loved doing them because it was something we could do together. I miss you looking over my shoulder to see what was around the next bend. Maybe a squirrel, or maybe some deer the other side of the creek.

You made people laugh when your little head would pop up beside mine as we rode along, an unexpected surprise for others on the trail. I knew that when your little flippy flappy ear flaps were up, it meant we were going just fast enough to make you happy.

I miss your joy for life, I didn't realize how much I depended on that joy of yours for my own happiness. I miss watching you run. You wanted to fly more than any soul I've ever known, and I sure hope you got those wings finally. 🕊️

Forever your favourite song to howl along to, and will forever make me cry.

I miss you so much, Tilley.

Your 10th Gotcha 'Days'were July 21 & 22. We were supposed to have a great celebration together. An adventure of some kind. I would have made sure it was everything you loved... Those days came and went, I thought about you, us, and now ultimately my life without you.

July 21, 2015 I met you for the first time. You surprised me with your long legs! I was expecting a tiny pup, 8-10 weeks. You were closer to 5 months and had already grown some pretty impressive legs! You were terrified of everything, and exhausted. Our first night together I let you sleep on a mountain of pillows at the motel. I didn't sleep, I just watched you. I was afraid I'd sleep through alarms and miss our early morning flight out of Ontario, CA.

July 22, 2015. We began our journey home, and our journey through life together. (It was supposed to be so much longer.) I was worried - I hadn't been able to get you to pee. Too afraid of the world, too afraid of grass, the leash, every sound. I was worried about the flights home. Would you be ok?

It made me smile when I peeked in on you, tucked safely in your cozy carrier under the seat on the first flight to Dallas. (A bit too small, because I wasn't expecting a puppy on stilts!) You were upside down and had a sweet little smile while you slept. It was my first glimpse of who you would transform into. ❤️

We tried the 'dog relief" area at DFW. No luck. But just as we were about to board the second and much longer flight to Toronto, you were suddenly frantic in your carrier. I barely got the pee pad unfolded and your carrier unzipped in time. The biggest pee from the tiniest girl. You have no idea how grateful I was that you chose that moment, instead of inside the cramped plane. How did you know?

These memories hurt so much. You were perfect. One in a billion. I will keep sharing pictures and videos in your memory, I just needed to take a break. There will never be another like you. My one-of-a-kind little shelter pup. 💔

The best place is together. ♥🐾
I have done many handstands on my adventures, and these are just a few! It’s still my favourite trick. Always pays well for a job well done. 🤑🥩 And no - my tail never stops! 🤣

Soooo who can say “I can do that” 😂 This was a tough one to learn, but a fun one to pawctice! Throwback to my younger days 🤣 Mum doesn’t ask me to do this one anymore (c’mon puppers, I’m 8 now!), though I still will throw down a perfect handstand when the right snacko presents itself. 🤸‍♀️ #tilleydoestricks #topsyturvy #handstand
