Back in 2020, I got a call from my brother,, who told me the story of his brother Blake, who was sentenced to forty years in the Texas state penitentiary at just 17 years old for aggravated robbery involving a toy gun.
As you can imagine, I was completely disheartened by the story.
Chris then asked me if I would join him and his mother Tosha Mills to travel across America and help document the unheard voices of mothers carrying their own deeply personal narratives, stories of children incarcerated or lost to police brutality.
Traveling during the pandemic and sitting face to face with these mothers opened my eyes to injustice in a way I had never experienced before.
Their stories became reflections of pain, resilience, survival, and the realities surrounding incarceration and family in this country.
Christopher Horne and I had worked together before through fashion and numerous photoshoots, but to witness him create a film alongside his mother showed me what it truly means to be a visionary and storyteller, especially when carrying the weight of the hardest stories.
This was a documentary I never imagined myself being part of, but for a friend & mom, for social change, and for the realities that affect so many people in this country, I said yes. I’m beyond grateful to have been a part of this project as a camera operator.
I learned so much through this experience. Thank you both for welcoming me. The seeds planted during this journey are continuing to grow. It’s our time.

For most people, the light is usually seen on me performing in front of the camera. Through photography, I found purpose in turning my lens and light toward others, creating work that captures the essence of my community through boundless storytelling. My photography explores culture and identity on a scale that extends beyond the everyday, preserving the spirit of my community and New Orleans while contributing to larger contemporary conversations meant to live within museum and cultural spaces.

& it was my dad.
Dancing to DJ Jubilee in 1995
We hadn’t spoken in years.
But that day, it was also his birthday the same day.
I called him.
And everything shifted.
Fast forward to now…
I just danced for Jon Batiste at Jazz Fest
and performed my own music at French Quarter Fest.
On 504 Day, it only feels right to come back to this.
Because this was never random.
This was lineage. This was New Orleans. This turned my purpose into calling.

it showed me who I was becoming.
From that moment came CUT UP, NO RUG
From healing came purpose
From my father… came me

We may not have had everything.
But one thing we always had was dance.
The more I look back at what I’ve done with appreciation…
