For anyone unfamiliar with RUSH, they are a Canadian rock trio who influenced many bands today. I became a fan when I was 10. My first concert was a RUSH concert in 1986. As a kid and aspiring photographer, I always dreamed of photographing them someday.
That day arrived in 1994. Two years into my photojournalism career, I photographed them in Pittsburgh, where I worked at a suburban newspaper. I was 24 and absolutely beside myself!! I seriously couldnβt believe I got such a great opportunity. I stood mere feet away from the band I loved and documented their performance. Not too many can say that.
Three years later, I got another opportunity to photograph their show. This time it was in Cincinnati, at my second newspaper job. I was 27 years old but still felt like a little kid looking up at these larger-than-life rockers like I did when I was 10 years old.
Since those two shows, Iβve been blessed to have photographed RUSH three more times.
The photos here are from the first two RUSH concerts I covered. I found the negatives recently in my attic and scanned them in.
Pictures 1-5 were taken during the April 20, 1994, Counterparts show at the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh.
Pictures 6-10 were taken during the June 4, 1997, Test for Echo show at Riverbend Music Center in Cincinnati.
