I don’t get a ton of time to travel as a single mom and business owner, but these 24 hours away inspired me to take more adventures like this when I can. It also reminded me (for the thousandth time!) just how much I love this province and how proud I am to call it home 😌
Thank you to and for this amazing experience!

But I did. I figured it out, sometimes through trial and error but often by an intuition I didn’t realize I had until I met my son. I knew that I would do anything to make his life as happy and as healthy as possible, and that if I trusted myself, we’d be OK.
Today I feel incredibly relaxed as a mom and as a coparent, in spite of - or probably because of - all of the stress and sadness I experienced throughout my pregnancy and in a lot of my first year postpartum. There are things that happen now that used to trigger me so badly, and sometimes I remind myself just how far I’ve come.
So if you are experiencing a solo pregnancy, or if you have recently become a single parent, I promise it changes. I’m not saying it’s not hard, but you’ll adapt and learn and grow. And I promise there is so much love to be had, both with your child/children and with yourself.
When I was in those darkest days, all I wanted was a crystal ball that would tell me it was going to be OK. And it is. In fact, it’s better than OK; it’s absolutely amazing. So if I can tell you one thing I’ve learned, if I can be your crystal ball, please believe me: it’s going to be OK ✨
My sunshine forever, forever my love ❤️

When I was a kid, I LOVED Christmas. I have so many happy memories of singing carols at the piano, the fireplace crackling; of snow falling down in big white chunks as we tobogganed in the local park; of hot chocolate and Christmas movies that we had seen dozens of times. I remember a sense of togetherness, of family, of being with the people I love. And I used to believe that, one day, I’d have that picture-perfect scene in my own home. You know the one: the husband, the two or three kids, the big extended family of in-laws.
I don’t think many of us anticipate becoming single parents, and when we do, I don’t think we anticipate just how hard the holidays can be. And while I spent lots of lovely time with my family throughout December - a privilege that I am so thankful for - I spent a lot of time alone, too.
“A day is a just a day!” People said to me. Why does it matter if I spent Christmas Eve alone, or if my son wasn’t with me on Christmas morning? I told myself those things again and again, willing them to sink in.
An idea I’ve embraced a lot over the past year is that two things can be true. A day can be just a day, and I can have a wonderful Christmas celebration with my son on December 26th, and I can be overwhelmed with gratitude at the love I have in my life. But I can also be sad that I wasn’t with him on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and mourn the loss of that dream I used to have about the “picture-perfect” family with a partner and our kids.
This holiday season taught me a lot. And when I let that image go - the one I thought holidays were “supposed” to look like - there’s a lot more room for me to embrace what I have right in front of me. I have an amazing group of family and friends, a life I love. And I have my boy, my beautiful, precious boy, whom I did indeed spend December 26th with: singing carols at the piano, drinking hot chocolate, watching Christmas movies, the snow falling down in big white chunks. And that sounds pretty perfect to me ✨
Here’s to everyone whose holiday season looked a little different this year, whether it was spent alone, co-parenting, grieving a loss, or otherwise ❤️
I feel like I’ve messed up one of the things I’ve loved the most in my life, one of the only constants I’ve had over the past two decades.
Yep, I’m talking about my blog and its social media 🙃
There’s a new post on the blog in which I ponder how much I used to love blogging and being online and now… now I have no idea what to write or post. I don’t want to be a mommy blogger. I’m not a travel blogger anymore, because I don’t really travel. I guess I could talk about dating and relationships… if I actually dated. Simply put: I feel very confused about what to write anymore. I also don’t want to give up, because I have always loved this online community with all my heart, not to mention I miss writing things I feel passionate about 🥲❤️
Posting today because I just wanted to say hello, and because I wanted to share these photos from a perfect autumn day in early October. My son and I looked for butterflies and snakes in the forest and then had a picnic on the beach (where he ran into the water fully clothed), and life was just perfect ✨
I spent almost the entirety of my time in Nova Scotia in the outdoors. And while I’m a prairie girl at heart, there’s no denying what a walk along the ocean can do for the spirit; the salty air, the waves against the shoreline… I felt so at peace. Getting to spend so much time outdoors in Nova Scotia, both on land and sea, was incredibly rejuvenating.
I’ll be posting an entire article about my visit to McNabs Island as that was a highlight of my time in the province, but there are a few posts about my time in Nova Scotia already on the blog!
Thank you to for this magical trip ✨

And perhaps that’s what stands out to me the most about my time in Halifax. Yes, the city looks a bit different and feels a bit different, but at its core, it’s still the same city I fell in love with more than twenty years ago. And couldn’t the same be said about all of us? I think back to that bright-eyed kid who was so full of excitement and wonder about what lay ahead, about which directions my life would take.
Even though my holiday in Halifax was busy, filled with sightseeing, every evening I found myself gravitating toward the water. I spent so many hours on the waterfront in my university days: meeting up with friends, writing in my journal, reading, grabbing a coffee and walking from one end of the boardwalk to the other, back again and back again.
This time, there were many new-to-me restaurants, shops, and art installations, but the air, the sounds of jazz music and people laughing, the pink sky as the sun dipped below the horizon, it all felt the same.
I’ve been lucky to have lived in many places in my life, some thousands of kilometres from where I was born and, now, a place that’s only a few blocks from where I grew up. But Halifax will forever feel like more than a place I lived.
It will forever feel like home. ✨”

Thank you to for hosting me in Halifax ❤️

If you’re experiencing the same thing, I want you to know that you’re not alone. Setting up the nursery, going to doctor’s appointments, taking progress photos, trying to stay active and healthy despite how emotionally and physically awful I felt… there were so many things I did completely alone throughout my pregnancy, wondering if I’d be strong enough to keep going. There were times I’d watch reels of people rubbing their pregnant partner’s feet or bringing them their favourite food and I would just sob.
My son was born on a Saturday morning, just like me. And as I held him close that evening, just the two of us in the hospital room, I knew I’d always be strong enough. As hard as a solo pregnancy was - and as hard as being a solo parent and coparenting can be sometimes - I knew there’d also be so much love and happiness. And I know it’s going to be there for you, too.
Today, I can’t imagine my life without my little boy. And I know that our family is exactly as it was meant to be ✨
I wish I had known then what I can tell you now: that you’re not alone, and that you’re going to be ok ❤️
Two years later - now that my son is nearly 18 months old - I wish so badly that I could go back and give the person I was a hug. I can’t believe how much I’ve grown and changed, can’t believe how much my universe has expanded. Two years ago, I couldn’t imagine that I could sit here and say: I’m happy, I love my life, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
If you are going through something similar, please know that you’re not alone. Please know that you will find many moments of happiness, of peace, of freedom, and of so, so, so much love. ✨
