Interestingly it marked a personal milestone as Iād never had a chance to visit so many different regions in one calendar year! Starting with Asia and Japan, then with the Himalayas, and later India; later into Europe starting with Turkey, though I also spent time in the Asian part of this country; the Balticās, Scandinavia, the Iberian peninsula, and finally the African continent and Tunisia, before heading to South America and then Mexico where I currently am. Canāt think of anything that makes feel more alive than traveling!

From the main quay, a blue-signposted walking path connects the key attractions all the way to the most atmospheric part of Suomenlinna, Kustaanmiekka, at the end of the blue trail, where youāll find old bunkers, crumbling fortress walls and cannons that will give you an insight into the fortress, and lastly the magnificent Monumental Kingās Gate, still standing next to the royal query.
Only a 20 minute ferry ride from Helsinki, capital of Finland and a culture-packed urban centre with boulevards and backstreets overflown with magnificent architecture and surrounded by sublime natural environment, exploring this world class venue is a most do on any trip to the Baltic region.
The time I spent in Finland was my only taste of beautiful Scandinavia on my four-month long world trip from last year, and even though Iāve explored Sweden,Denmark, and Norway in previous trips, I canāt wait to return and see more!

Either if you decide to go people-watching in Town Hall Square in summer, or wrapping up for the Christmas markets in the winter; or explore the two distinct districts of this near-perfect medieval town which is divided into an upper town, Toompea the ancient hilltop citadel, and lower town, which is still surrounded by much of its 2.5 km defensive wall; perhaps wander into hidden medieval courtyards, and find footworn stone stairways leading to sweeping views of the red-roofed city; or maybe walking the mysterious passages in Tallinnās earthwork fortifications, youāll enjoy an authentic medieval milieu, a window into the Middle Ages and all its mysticism.

If this wasnāt enough within less than a hundred miles of RiĢga youāll find the countryās grandest National Park, Gauja NP; itās greatest palace, Rundale Palace, also known as the Baltic Versailles; JuĢrmala, a long string of townships with grand wooden beach houses belonging to Russian oil tycoons, the Balticās version of the French Riviera; and the Latvian Ethnographic Open-Air Museum, an enchanted forest sitting along the shores of Lake Jugla that contains wooden buildings from Latviaās four cultural regions. Photos of all this unique destinations soon to come in future posts!

Even though itās very hard to say which of the regions I visited on my four-month world trip I enjoyed the most, I can say with all honesty that aside from the time spent in the Himalayas thru-hiking along the Annapurna Circuit, exploring the Baltic states (Lithuania, Latvia & Estonia ) was my personal favorite. Iāve always had a special interest and fascination with the culture and people from this lesser known part of the world, and it has only increased every time Iām exposed again to it all, reason why visiting all the countries that once were part of the Soviet Union is very high on my bucket list of travel goals. As soon as borders reopen I plan to head back and continue my quest!
So for those who havenāt considered visiting Lithuania, please do, the southernmost of the Baltic countries, it has an otherworldly quality. Blame it on the Baltic sea breeze and beaches spangled with amber and woodlands; or the Curonian Spit, a magical sliver of land and host to Europeās most precious and tallest sand dunes; surely beautiful Vilnius and its Old Town that resembles more an open air museum than a city with its bright baroque houses, cobblestoned charms, inviting alleyways and colorful churches built around quiet courtyards, and all-night clubbing fun; maybe itās the almost-endless midsummer days, the ancient castles, classic Soviet era buildings, the medieval-style mead and traditional wood-carving that never went out of style, or the mysticism of Europe's last country to be Christianised, pagan history still soaks the land.

Designated as a Japanese Important Cultural Property, this landmark is home to several sacred structures, statues, and objects, none more relevant than the great Buddhist deity Fudo Myoo, the Unmovable Wisdom King, brought from Kyoto in the year 939 on a secret order of the emperor with the hope that it would help stop a nationwide bloody revolt by conducting a Goma rite (which consists on burning small pieces of wood on the altar to invoke divine help) in front of the image for 21 days. The rebellion was suppressed and the legend of this sacred Buddhist place was born.

Japan was my first stop during a four month-long trip last year, and my experience visiting Narita definitely surpassed my expectations. Itās for days like this when youāre pleasantly surprised exploring lesser known destinations that travelers live for!.

Istanbul was one of the beautiful cities and regions I visited during the 4 weeks I spent exploring Turkey while on a four month world trip last fall. This faraway land possibly has more world famous ruins and monuments, figures and empires, than any other country in the globe.
A must-do adventure full of once in a lifetime experiences!

Still under construction, work started in 1882, and today almost a hundred years after Antonio Gaudiās death, itās still unfinished which just adds to the myth of this splendid basilica. La Sagrada Familia not only end up becoming Gaudiās life work but also his final resting place. He is buried in the cathedralās crypt.
And donāt forget about the fact you must visit Barcelona to see this man-made wonder, one of the liveliest cities anywhere in the globe and a personal favorite of mine.
This two photos were taken at different times of a picture perfect Barcelona day, and show two of the Basilicaās uniquely original and different facades.

This sovereign microstate located in the Iberian Peninsula, bordered by France to the north, Spain to the south, and the majestic Pyrenees to the east is maybe Europeās best kept secret. You can soak up the natural landscapes around you including The Madriu- Perafita Claror Valley, a World Heritage Site; discover amazing hiking trails, world class ski slopes, and uncover the mysteries of its mountains.
Exploring itās bustling capital Andorra la Vella, the highest capital city in Europe, and itās centuries-old Barri Antic, Romanesque churches, sky-reaching mountains peaks, spa resorts, and duty free shops is truly a great experience!

Tunis, was my first stop on my trip to Tunisia, the first time visiting the African continent, and another once-in-a-lifetime experience Iāll never forget!
ā¢
The Medina of Tunis, one of Africaās biggest and oldest, is rich with some 700 historic palaces, hammams, mosques and madrassas lavishly decorated with tiles, carved stucco and marble columns and scattered throughout the Medina, if explored during the day youāll find it is full with thousands of shops lining the streets dedicated to selling specific items, restaurants, street-food, offices, apartments, a hotel or two, and countless paths you could take to see it all. It is without a doubt the historic heart of Tunis.
Though as the sun sets, a new reality sets in. Every evening, like clockwork, most of the Medina is abandoned. Itās dark (thereās a near-total lack of lighting), and nearly impossible to navigate for anyone other than those most familiar with the layout. Apart from a small handful of well-trodden lane-ways, the majority of the Tunis Medina remains mysterious and rarely visited by outsiders. ā¢
