This is what my ideal 2026 would look like if I were starting from scratch, with 25 days of annual leave and a full-time job.
People are always shocked when they hear I travel 10+ times a year, and I’m very thankful I live in Europe where not many destinations are too far away, but there’s always ways you can optimise your time off if your goal is to travel more.
The biggest shift for me was realising that:
- long weekends add up
- bank holidays do a lot of the heavy lifting
- not every month needs a big trip
- rest and slower months are part of the plan
This calendar is tailored to UK 9-5 workers, but the principle works anywhere: build your year around time, seasons, and energy, not FOMO.
If you’ve ever felt like travel has to wait for “someday”, I hope this shows it doesn’t.

Let’s be honest for a second: Tulum wasn’t our favourite place in Mexico… but it also wasn’t nearly as bad as the internet makes it sound.
Yes, it’s more expensive, it’s more touristy, but if you know where to stay, how to get around, and what’s actually worth your time, it can still be a really enjoyable stop.
These are the 8 things I genuinely think you shouldn’t miss 👇
🌴 Playa Paraíso – one of the prettiest beaches I’ve seen
🏛️ Tulum Ruins – historic Mayan ruins right on the cliff edge
🚲 Renting a bike – hands down the best way to get around Tulum
🌯 Burrito Amor – casual, affordable, and sooo delicious
✨ Escultura de la Luz – the Tulum icon!
💦 Cenote Atik – refreshing, less chaotic, and perfect for a mid-day swim
🍵 Matcha Mama – yes it’s popular, but the drinks are actually good
🌿 SFER IK Uh May – otherworldly architecture, unlike anything else we saw in Mexico
Things we wish we knew before visiting Tulum 👇
• Stay in Aldea Zama vs Zona Hotelera - cheaper, better food, and easier to move around
• Rent bikes or get a driver instead of taxis (taxis add up fast)
• Cenotes are the real highlight, so plan a few
• Expect prices closer to Europe than “cheap Mexico”
• Go in with realistic expectations and you’ll enjoy it way more
Tulum isn’t a place I’d rush back to… but I am glad we went, and with the right planning, it can still be a really fun, stunning stop on a Mexico itinerary.
❓Have you been, or are you still deciding if it’s worth it?

Before entering this amazing space, visitors take part in a short purification ritual, a quiet moment designed to reset your senses and signal that this space isn’t meant to be rushed. It completely changes how you experience what comes next.
This is
📍SFER IK Uh May
one of the most fascinating examples of organic architecture in Tulum, Mexico.
Inside, the architecture rejects straight lines, symmetry, and traditional structure. Curves, narrow walkways, and uneven levels force you to slow down and move with intention. This place is technically a museum, but unlike any I’ve seen before for sure.
All I could dream about when inside is how can I design my dream home to mirror this space. I mean, mix wood, plants and stone and is there anything better visually?
Practical info for planning your visit 👇
• Location: 1 hr from Tulum, Mexico (easiest by taxi or rental car)
• Tickets: Buy online or at the entrance
• Price: Approx. USD 24
• Time needed: 45–60 minutes
• Best time to visit: Early morning for fewer crowds and softer light
• What to wear: comfy clothes and note, you need to take your shoes off to enter
Is there another place that screams Tulum more than this one? 👀

Dreaming of turquoise waters, cenotes, ancient ruins, and tacos on the beach? This 12-day Yucatán Peninsula itinerary covers all the highlights, with the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation.
💾 Save this reel if you’re planning a trip to Mexico soon!
Here’s how we did it:
✈️ Days 1–5: Tulum – Chill beach days, cenotes, ruins, and dreamy boutique hotels
🏛 Days 6–7: Valladolid – Explore colonial charm + visit the iconic Chichén Itzá
⛱ Days 8–10: Isla Holbox – Off-the-grid vibes, sunsets, and sand streets
🌴 Days 11–12: Cancun – Poolside cocktails, nightlife, or just unwind before flying home
💙If I were to add one more stop, I would have loved to visit Bacalar, but we were too tight on time. If you have 2 days extra to spare, this would be my choice. We also planned to visit Isla Mujeres from Cancun but the weather during the last day ruined our plans 😅
🚌Getting around:
We mostly used ADO buses - affordable, safe, and air-conditioned. For Isla Holbox, take an ADO bus to Chiquilá, then the ferry (runs every 30 mins). Between towns, ADO is your best bet!
This route keeps travel time low and experiences high, perfect for a first-time trip to Mexico.

Mexicans really know how to serve mangoes… freshly cut and served on a stick, sprinkled with Tajin, and drizzled with lime juice and chamoy, I guarantee you’re not gonna want to have them plain after you had these 😅

Riga completely caught me off guard, and these are the spots that stayed with me and the ones I highly recommend you visit (especially if you are there over the Christmas period for obvious reasons)
✨ Riga Old Town
Cobblestone streets, colourful facades, and that fairytale European vibe, especially magical in winter when everything is lit up and dusted with Christmas decorations.
📚 National Library of Latvia
One of the most impressive modern libraries I’ve ever visited. The architecture alone is worth the trip, but the views over the Daugava River make it unforgettable.
☕ Parunāsim Kafeteeka
Cosy, local, and full of character, the kind of café you stumble into once and then wish you had near home. Perfect for slow mornings and warming up between exploring.
🎄 Riga Christmas Market (Dome Square)
Festive without feeling overwhelming. Think wooden stalls, mulled wine, traditional Latvian food, and a relaxed atmosphere you can actually enjoy.
🍸 Black Magic Bar
Hidden, moody, and a little mysterious, this place is all about herbal liqueurs, candlelight, and old-world charm. A must for an evening drink in Riga.
If you’re planning a Riga city break, this mix of historic sights, cosy cafés, and winter magic is exactly why it deserves more attention.
❓Which one would you visit first?

Riga travel guide, things to do in Riga, Riga city break, Riga Old Town, Riga Christmas market, Latvia travel, European winter destinations
It has everything people love about Europe’s big Christmas destinations, from twinkling lights, wooden market stalls, and mulled wine on repeat, but without the shoulder-to-shoulder crowds and inflated prices.
The Old Town feels like a fairytale in winter, especially around Dome Square, where the Christmas market sits right in front of the cathedral. Think gingerbread scents in the air, local crafts, Baltic comfort food, and that cosy, slow-paced festive vibe that feels genuinely authentic.
What I loved most?
✨ You can actually enjoy the market without rushing
✨ Food is hearty, comforting, and very generous
✨ Prices are noticeably better than Vienna or Prague
✨ Everything is walkable and beautifully lit at night
If you’re after a European Christmas market that still feels magical but not overhyped, Riga is such a good choice, especially if you’ve already done the “classic” ones.
Would you swap a popular Christmas market for an underrated one like this? 🎄
