This ghostly looking nudi had only 2 iNat observations from central California when I started tidepooling in 2022. The limited info available pointed towards a mudflat species but in truth, it felt like one of those species youād probably never get to see.
In 2024 a beautiful individual was found in San Diego in cobbles, which lifted the hopes of our local enthusiasts! Many searches ensued in hopes of finding it again, but Casper did not materialize. In that same year 3 more were found by (juvenile, partially rocky habitat, central Cal), and (adults, mudflats, NorCal).
Taunting, hauntingā¦slightly mocking perhaps.
Then all quiet on the Rollerās front for 2 years, until the eagle eyed found 3 more in a cobble field. Over the course of three months, after each of her sightings I would rush to find it the next day but these elusive aeolids would only materialize in her presence! Finally in one last coordinated 3hr long grueling search WITH the Rollerās aeolid whisperer herself, I was able to find my first individualš¤
Long story short, sometimes slugs have favorite people

I have a new sluggy item to share with you guys! I made a 500pc puzzle with some of the most iconic nudibranchs in Southern California. Come spend a few hours focusing on the details that make each sea slug so unique!
Some cool things about this puzzle: each piece has a unique shape, I drew in algae leaves that I typically find nudis on, and I added sluggy fun facts all around the inner box!

The museum is showcasing coastal communities to celebrate the role of kelp forests and I get to highlight the tiny critters that live in it, what an honor!
There will be a reception on Sunday 25th from 2pm to 4pm where you can get a look at all the wonderful art displayed and meet the artists! The exhibit will run from January 24th to July 20th of 2026 so if youāre driving through central California please come check it outāŗļø
