Running is better when you don’t do it alone - that’s why this year’s Run Club is our biggest yet.
We’ve partnered with The Running Room to bring specialist running expertise directly into the Barry’s community, with physios Beau and Claire helping our instructors deepen their understanding of training, recovery and performance 💪🏼
And throughout the series, you’ll have opportunities to connect with The Running Room team at our Sunday outdoor runs, ask questions, learn from experts and be part of a community that’s all working towards something together!
Whether you’re chasing a PB, training for City2Surf or simply looking to run stronger this winter, you’ll have an entire team behind you!
Because the best running journeys are backed by great people.❤️🔥
A monthly workshop to help runners train better in their off-season and build a robust body to reduce injury risks and improve performance in the lead up to their next race, perfect for runners training for Big Half, Berlin, NYC, Chicago, Valencia Marathon, or any races around then.
Most of the time we see runners:
1️⃣Know they need to gym but don’t know what to do
2️⃣Are in the gym but are not doing an appropriate running-specific plan
3️⃣Chronically under load their strength work so it doesn’t build strong tendons and bones, or match the demands of their running loads
4️⃣ Doing way too much junk volume so they’re too sore to run the next few days
5️⃣ Leaving their off-season strength work way too late so they’re having to improve their running and strength simultaneously when their race block starts
So we deep dived into:
✅Running injuries, load management, common mistakes we see now in the Summer
✅Strength training & plyos, why runners need to train differently now vs in their race block
✅How does exactly that to help you prevent injuries and avoid the mistakes above
Then a practical workshop on key strength movements and plyometrics every runner should be doing.
Thank you to everyone who attended! Glad to see so many runners prioritising injury prevention and being proactive with their strength work.
Second workshop Friday 19 June, 5:30pm, sign up link in bio! Attendees will receive a discount code for Running Room App.

Grateful to have helped host an evening full of education, connection, and inspiring conversations around women’s running. So special to see so many women come together to learn, move, and support one another.
In my opinion, comfort and stability are more important than what feels like the fastest shoe! If you can’t finish 42.2km because your shoe gives you pain, it’s not your fastest option! We’ll dive into when you do or don’t need a plated shoe in the future!
A 2016 review by Vernillo et al. explored the biomechanics and physiology of uphill and downhill running — and there are some useful rehab implications.
Terrain can be used strategically depending on the tissue you’re trying to load (or offload).
Uphill:
• Increased calf/Achilles load
• Reduced knee loading + braking forces
• Can be useful when trying to reduce patellofemoral stress eg. Using an incline treadmill.
Downhill:
• Increased tibial bending stress
• Increased braking forces + patellofemoral load
• Reduced Achilles load
Not every hill session is the same — gradient and speed matter, but understanding these changes can help guide smarter rehab and training decisions.

As a runner, you could be missing one of the best exercises for building strength, power, and injury resilience 👀
So many runners I work with are fearful of deadlifting after previous back injuries, but don’t let fear or lack of confidence stop you from learning a movement that can be incredibly beneficial when performed correctly 💪
A few key tips: -Hinge at the hips -Keep the weight close to your body -Eyes and chest forward -Engage your core and trunk
Helpful cues: “Draw your belly button in” “Peel your shoulder blades back”
If you still have concerns or discomfort, it’s important to get assessed for any mobility, strength, or movement deficits to ensure you can perform the movement safely and confidently 🙌 #runningphysio #strengthtraining
We’re hosting monthly in-person workshop from May to September covering all things strength training, load management and injury prevention from off-season to in-season.
Most running injuries are predictable and preventable. A big reason for that is the lack of structured strength work and preparation before training volume increases. So if you’re running a race between September to December, you need to start preparing your body and building it up now.
So these workshop and is our answer to this - designed to help you improve performance, reduce injuries and provide a strength plan that fits around your race block year round.
19 June workshop is live now - sign up via link in bio!
