Over the past months, TIN-1 by has taken shape as an installation which was on view in our window.
The work is made from tin paper; a material composed of aluminum foil pressed together with joss paper and rattan.
TIN-1 reinterprets a family ritual from southern China, passed down through generations of women who folded tin paper pagodas as New Year offerings.
Living in the Netherlands, this distance from home transforms the ritual into a reflection on belonging and displacement.
To mark the arrival of spring, the sculpture was burned at Westerpark. Fire becomes the work’s final gesture.
