My heart is aching for my home in New York. My head is in Italy with my other “home” in Palermo. My soul is with Spain with my other “homes” in Barcelona and Valencia. My heart is with my “homes” in Indonesia, Thailand, Portugal, Tanzania, Greece, Croatia, Costa Rica, Hong Kong, Mexico, Morocco, Cambodia, France, Slovakia, and every single country around the world that’s been deeply affected by this tragedy.

From my quarantine in Singapore to the ends of the earth, my boundless home, my heart is spread thin. This is the price I pay for the richness of loving and knowing people in more than one place.

And as my heart is spread thinner and thinner, it’s breaking deeper and further. My thoughts are with everyone who is suffering in any capacity right now.

But in this broken-hearted state, I find that I have never been filled with more gratitude for life. Being overcome by grief, my love for life has never been stronger. And for that, I am yet again, overcome by gratitude 🙏♥️
This past year has been filled with change and it has been filled with consistencies. And I am overwhelmed with gratitude for them both. 🙏♥️ Wishing you a happy, healthy, and love-filled new year!

I remember when the idea of standing on my head scared the living shit out of me. I remember a time when I was terrified to play with balancing on my head or to even turn upside down.⠀

Looking back now, I think it’s funny. I’m stubborn as can be and I had made up my mind that I was going to learn headstand so there were no ifs, ands, or buts about it. But I was terrified to actually do it.⠀

I remember practicing my heart out to build strength in my arms, shoulders, and core but never actually having the guts to give headstand a try. Until one day a teacher broke down the parts for me so clearly that it stopped being an insurmountable task. It was simply step one followed by step two. And I could do those steps. And then suddenly step three didn’t feel so far away either. ⠀

Before I knew it, I was balancing, upside down, on my head! I was so shocked that I made myself flip over and fall 😂⠀

And the best part? I survived to tell the tale. And suddenly everything that I had been dreading and fearing and stressing about for so long didn’t matter at all anymore. I fell. And I survived. And I could fall again and I’d probably survive the next fall too.⠀

And thus my journey to headstand began. I certainly didn’t get it overnight and I fell many more times after that, but what really changed was my attitude to the task. It no longer felt insurmountable.⠀

Sometimes when I look at my endless to-do lists, I feel as if I’ve taken on insurmountable tasks. I feel like I have too much on my plate and not enough time in the day. I think I’m probably not alone in these feelings.⠀

I often try to remind myself that every hurdle has an endpoint and so many things that I’ve viewed as impossible in the past, have somehow manifested into reality.⠀

Baby steps taken day by day become giant leaps in hindsight. My physical practice has definitely taught me that. But my mental practice has shown me that on an even greater scale.⠀

Take baby steps. Practice. But, more importantly, change your perspective. Because perspective is everything.
