For those based in the US who aren’t able to visit us during Design Destination London, there’s still an opportunity to see work by one of our makers closer to home.

Ash & Plumb will be exhibiting at FOG Design+Art in San Francisco with Sarah Myerscough Gallery, from 21–25 January.

Additionally, in London, Ash & Plumb will be among the makers being celebrated by the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (QEST). As former QEST scholars, they will have five selected works highlighted as part of a one-night presentation recognising QEST-supported makers and their ongoing contribution to contemporary craft.

Wooden Vessels by Ash & Plumb

Rather than replicating historic vessels, Ash & Plumb reimagine them through the lens of contemporary woodcraft.

Their work is informed by a fascination with the visual language of form and how that echoes across time and culture, from Greco-Roman and Southeast Asian to British Neolithic and Saxon references, all playfully reinvented through their own practice, offering what they describe as a “sense of unexpected familiarity.”

Black & White Volcanic Lamp by Alison Lousada

The Black & White Volcanic Lamp is a functional table lamp with a volcanic glaze crafted by ceramicist Alison Lousada.

Inspired by the dramatic landscapes of Iceland and Japan, where black volcanic beaches meet snow-covered peaks, each lamp is formed with layered slips and finished with blistered porcelain, giving the lamps their distinctive texture.

Badan Stool, 2025 by Matthew Hensby

We're delighted to announce the arrival of the Badan Stool by Matthew Hensby. Exquisitely handmade from sweet chestnut and finished with a black stain, the stool is defined by its carved surface, with the marks of the making left visible throughout.

Make sure to stop by the showroom when we reopen from the 5th of January onwards, to see the stool in person, alongside a selection of new chairs. More to be revealed soon.
Wooden Vessels by Ash & Plumb

Barnaby Ash and Dru Plumb are woodturners based in the South Downs, just outside of Brighton.

Each vessel is hand-turned and shaped from a single piece of sustainably sourced, unseasoned oak, allowing the organic characteristics of the material to shape the vessel's final form.

Their work is deeply rooted in research, drawing inspiration from historical forms ranging from Neolithic pottery and Greek and Roman wine vessels to 17th century Bronzes.

Hooks by John Egan

Based on the windy coast of the Llŷn Peninsula in rural North Wales, John Egan is a woodworker who has long been fascinated by trees, which are rare in the area, and have been shaped by years of sea winds into forms that are twisted, bent, and scarred.

Working with whole trees that have fallen or been felled locally, John uses every part of the timber, preserving its natural twists, knots, and grain patterns in the final piece.

The Caithness Hayve in Small by Tim Johnson

Basketmaker and artist, Tim Johnson, combines traditional basketmaking techniques with his own innovative practices. After discovering a Caithness Hayve by chance in northern Scotland, he spent time working out its unique construction.

The Hayve is crafted using Neolithic braiding, a technique common in Southern Europe and Africa, but previously unseen this far north. Unlike most baskets that begin at the base, the Hayve is woven from the border down, finishing at the very centre.
