A couple of weeks ago, the legendary filmmaker TC Christensen reached out and asked if our family would be interested in attending the premiere of his newest film. I was honestly floored—first, that he even knows who I am, and second, because we are never going to pass up the chance to see a movie we know is going to inspire.

Tonight we got dressed up and headed to the red carpet premiere of Standout—the true story of Ben Kjar, who was born with a rare condition affecting his arms and legs and went on to prove that being different isn’t a disadvantage—it can be your strength.

Jack started out a little shy, but he warmed up, and by the time we left he couldn’t wait to get home and show us his muscles! We may have a future wrestler in the making now 🤩💙 Thanks for inspiring him Ben!

And as if the night couldn’t get any sweeter, TC told me we’re “forever pals” now. I’m truly honored.

It’s beautiful to see how others are using their own superpowers to change the world and we definitely walked away feeling inspired, uplifted, and ready to leave our own mark on the world in a big way!
Yesterday we went to a missionary farewell at a church building we don’t usually go to. As soon as I realized which building it was, I got excited—because it’s the same one where two of Jack’s friends attend on Sundays.

So I texted Nate’s mom: “We’ll be there tomorrow—Jack is going to be so excited to see Nate.” She immediately offered to save us a seat so we could sit with them. Such a small thing, but I knew Jack would be excited!

Then… the nerves hit.

In the parking lot Jack refused to get out of the car. After a little coaxing he finally stepped out… and instantly turned into a stiff board the second we tried to walk toward the doors. Devon put his hands under Jack’s arms, I lifted his legs, and together we carried him into the building while he cried, “I don’t want to go.”

Once inside, he planted himself on the foyer couch like, “This is as far as I’m willing to travel.” 😅

I peeked into the chapel, Nate’s mom spotted me, and I quietly told her Jack was refusing to come in. Without hesitating she said, “Do you want me to grab Nate?” I said, “No, no—you don’t have to!” and she said, “It’s no big deal.”

Next thing I know, Jack’s TWO best friends are in the foyer talking to him… and his entire demeanor changed in seconds. Tears stopped. Shoulders relaxed. Biggest smile. He stood up and walked into the chapel with a friend on each side, sat right between them, and smiled the entire meeting.

And I’ll be honest—five minutes earlier I was feeling defeated. Because the pushing, the explaining, the helping him through “new”… can be exhausting.

Sometimes it’s easy to feel like Jack is the one who needs help, or needs accommodating, or needs extra patience (and he does). But yesterday was such a reminder that friendship is a two-way gift. Jack isn’t just being included—he’s also bringing something good to the people who love him.

So I’m just sitting in gratitude today. For moms who notice. For kids who show up. For friends who make hard things feel easy. And for the reminder that even when getting there is hard… moments like this are everything. 🩵🩵🩵
It’s taken us years for Jack to feel comfortable sitting on his own for a haircut. And if you have a child with sensory sensitivities, you know how hard it can be.

Today my heart was full watching our family walk in one by one—to help him feel safe and give him a whole lot of love and encouragement. Something that used to feel so overwhelming always feels more manageable with his people surrounding him.

Family is his everything. And honestly, these “small” moments are the ones that mean the most. 🥹🩵

When Jack was born we found a video on YouTube of a young man in HS, with Down syndrome, sharing his daily routine on the internet. He independently rode his bike to the YMCA to swim every day, made his own smoothie for breakfast, and had a system for organizing his day that helped him remember what his to-do’s were that needed to be done. To us, as parents of a new infant with Ds, we were amazed and thought his life was extraordinary! Over the years, we’ve talked about this video and how it gave us so much hope for Jacks future. It was the glimpse we had been praying to see and brought much needed comfort into our lives.

This is why I share our life with Jack. Maybe his life will be the glimpse that someone else needs to see that will offer them those same feelings of peace and comfort after receiving a Ds diagnosis.

I want my page to be a source of happiness, positivity, hope, and peace. We are not perfect and still have days with Jack that feel like we’re still figuring things out. I can say the same thing about my other children as well, but in the end we’re always trying to focus on the good.

Thank you for being a part of the good in our world today and making this corner of the internet a little bit brighter along with us. We all deserve to feel a smile like Jacks in our lives every day!

XO,
Kimberly
We have new followers here that I want to welcome! First off, thank you for all of your kind, thoughtful, heart felt messages of encouragement and love. I’m blown away by the support…it’s truly amazing!

I’m the wife to Devon, mother of 4 children (and one son in law), and love everything beachy and sunshine! When I’m not home, managing the family, I can be found at the gym teaching Group Fitness classes (mainly Zumba, Pilates, and Barre), drinking a Diet Coke, or singing along to my favorite country song.

Jack is our youngest and constantly keeps us on our toes. From the time he was a baby, we tell everyone he is the rockstar of our family! He is adored and admired everywhere we go. His life is truly a miracle! He was born with Duodenal Atresia and nearly died after birth. So the fact that he is here and thriving and spreading his light is such a blessing and joy to see.

Again, WELCOME, and thank you for all the love. We would love to get to know you and hear where you’re from in the comments!

XO, Kimberly

Hiiii!!! 😁 My name is Kimberly and I’m excited to have so many of you here who are dancing their hearts away on the other side of the screen! A little bit about me...I’m a mom, a wife, fitness instructor, country music lover, reality show watcher, and addict of all things beachy and sunshine! I’ve taught Zumba since 2009! 💃🎶 When I certified I had no idea the impact it would have on my life. My first year of teaching, this cute little dude, Jack, was born with a surprise diagnosis of Down syndrome. His birth came with many other surprises (surgeries, hospitalizations, therapies, etc) that kind of rocked my world. I didn’t realize it, at the time, but I was suffering from depression. Zumba became my therapy! There’s something about music, dancing, and sweating out those endorphins that brings relief to your heart, mind, and soul. It might sound cheesy, but Zumba healed me ❤️💜 Over the years, my story has resonated with others and they, in turn, have shared their own Zumba healing stories with me. When COVID-19 happened, I realized it wasn’t only important for me to continue moving my body but for others to move as well. I’m so grateful for this platform to teach, for each of you who follow along, and for the love you have shown to me! I’ve always said that I love the way Zumba connects people beyond the classroom and now I’m experiencing that in an all new way! How amazing is it to know that we are truly 🎶all in this together🎶 How cool is it that even though we’re miles, maybe even states apart, that we are still connecting and uplifting each other as we dance! Yes, I Zumba for my physical health, but more important, I do it for my mental and emotional health as well. Keep on dancing, keep on smiling, only good things ahead! Sending lots of love to you all and I’ll see you on the dance floor! 👯‍♀️🎉🥰
