I was able to improve my running significantly with these weekly workouts…this was my secret! 🤫

I started to use the Bike…

Cycling lets you train Hyrox specific aerobic power & fatigue resistance without destroying your leg. This will let you run better when it actually matters.

So why does it work? 🧠

1️⃣ You Remove Eccentric Load

Running = high eccentric damage
Cycling = almost 0 eccentric damage

What this means for Hyrox athletes:

- You can accumulate huge aerobic stimulus
- Without smashing your tendons
- You can train hard without compromising Hyrox stations

2️⃣ Improves Run Durability (Doesn’t Just Make You Fit)

Run Durability = Your ability to hold form, cadence & control your heart rate later in a race

Every time you come off a station you’ll feel ready to run instead of panicking.

Workouts you can do 🚲

🔵 Tempo Builder

10 minutes easy

30 minutes steady tempo (you can speak in short sentences)

10 minutes easy

Cue: Hold 85 to 95 RPM
Goal: smooth breathing without HR spikes

🔵 Aerobic Durability Intervals

5x 6 minutes tempo
90 seconds easy spin

Simulates Run 👉 Station 👉 Run

🔵 Compromised Cycle Run

30 minute Cycle Tempo
20 minute Run Tempo

This is top Hyrox prep

Cycling is amazing for all your fitness building but don’t replace your high quality speed runs with bike.

Why can’t I keep my heart in zone 2?! 😭

Probably the question I get asked the most on instagram…

These are the 5 main reasons, & I doubt you’ve heard them before:

1. You Trained Too Hard For Too Long

Your heart rate spikes because it has forgotten what “easy” is.

Why:

Most of your training is in zone 3 or 4, your aerobic system is underdeveloped & your body only knows moderately hard.

How to fix it:

👉 8 weeks of boring runs (they gotta be easy)
👉 80% of your training is “easy”
👉 don’t have an ego when training

2. You’re Glycolytic Dominant

You’re fit but metabolically inefficient

Why:

Your body relies on carbs instead of fat which means your HR rises even at steady paces

Fix:

👉 Zone 2 volume
👉 Long runs 50+ minutes
👉 Occasionally do an easy run fasted

3. Stress

Why:

Stress or bad sleep can instantly increase your heart rate in any workout.

Fix:

👉 More sleep means more mileage
👉Hydrate heavy before runs
👉 Accept that some days will be hard due to circumstances

4. Poor Capillarization

Your muscles can’t absorb the oxygen you’re providing it.

Why:

Zone 2 increases capillary density, improving oxygen diffusion to muscles fibers. Without it your HR spikes to compensate it.

Fix:

👉 High frequency easy runs
👉 double easy sessions (two a day)
👉 Avoid medium hard runs

5. Automatic Nervous System Imbalance

Essentially your body is stuck in fight or flight mode.

Why:

Chronic intensity in your training makes your heart shoot up even with things as simple as walking.

Fix:

👉 True easy sessions (even if that means walking at first)
👉 0 caffeine before runs
👉 Very slow warm ups

One week after he landed in Toronto and left his entire life behind in London we secretly got married in the rain, in Riverdale Park with only as a witness and our officiant.

I couldn’t dream of a more perfect wedding 🤍

it was always you.
It was -2 this week so I said “it’s warm out”. Give me my Canadian citizenship right now

My 5KM journey over the past 3 years! 🪽

I wanted to create this to showcase that anything is possible when it comes to running.

It’s all about consistency.

January 2022

I couldn’t believe how unfit I had become in my time away from sport. I went for a 5km & ended up coming home after a 7 minute 1 km. This awoke something in me

February 2022

A month later I wasn’t gonna come home until I completed a 5km. I did but it was 40 minutes long.

April 2022

I was very happy to achieve my first 5KM without any rest & within a month a knocked off 10 minutes from my time.

June 2022

I started to feel like a runner 6 months in as I broke 25 minutes

July 2023

I took a lot of time out to focus on other goals but when I came back after a year I hit the mythical sub 20 time. Probably my best moment in running. I felt like I arrived

December 2024

After another long gap I wanted to see out the year with an attempt. 19:12 was a time that I couldn’t believe

May 2025

It was time to get back on the track & wow the jump was big this year. 18:22 felt like a serious accomplishment

August 2025

I ran my first 5KM race. The race was crowded & hilly but I still managed a PB 18:13

September 2025

My last 5km PB attempt in London & I couldn’t believe the jump again. 17:47 was a time I could only dream about when I started & could only run 1km

What’s next?

I’ve had an incredible time achieving these times in London but it’s time to test myself in bigger races. Marathon attempts are coming…
