Released today through Australia Post, the latest Bluey coin collection from the Royal Australian Mint celebrates some of the show’s most beloved episodes including Rain, Sleepytime, Camping, Baby Race and Granny Mobile.
Most significantly, this marks the very first time Bluey has appeared on Australia’s $2 coin denomination.
The collection includes folder sets, two coloured circulating coins, privy mark releases and coloured proof editions featuring Bluey, Bingo, Chilli and Bandit. But in a sign of just how unstoppable the Bluey phenomenon has become, both proof coin versions sold out almost immediately after release.
What started as a children’s TV show has become one of the most powerful forces in modern Australian collectibles. Parents, kids, collectors and resellers all chasing the same thing at once.
And somewhere across Australia today, people suddenly became very interested in checking their change again.
Because of that shift, the Reserve Bank of Australia doesn’t need to keep printing more notes. A large stockpile already exists, built up through pandemic-era demand and the rollout of newer banknote series. Add in the durability of polymer notes, especially higher denominations that rarely change hands, and production can pause without impacting supply. Cash isn’t disappearing, it’s changing role. Less about spending, more about security, and increasingly, something people hold onto rather than hand over.
In that quiet, in that stillness, we remember.
The 2026 $2 Dawn Service coloured circulating coin from the Royal Australian Mint is a tribute to one of the nation’s most enduring traditions. Designed by Bronwyn Scott, it captures the emotion of those early morning gatherings that have come to define Anzac Day.
At its centre, a burst of coloured light breaks across the horizon, symbolising the first light of dawn. Beneath it, a crowd stands together in silence, representing Australians from all walks of life united in reflection. Scattered through the field are poppies, quiet reminders of sacrifice. And on the headland, a lone soldier stands with head bowed, facing the rising sun.
Around the edge, the words say it all: Dawn Service – Lest We Forget.
Surrounding it is a design inspired by the ancient Chinese art of jianzhi, where intricate paper cutting has told stories for over a thousand years. Detailed, deliberate, timeless.
Struck from 1oz of 99.99% pure silver with an antiqued finish, this is not just a coin you look at. It is one you interact with.
Limited to just 3,000 worldwide.

In Australia, $1 had significantly higher purchasing power than it does today. Since the 1990s, inflation has steadily increased the general price level. That means the same $1 coin now buys far less than it used to.
In simple terms:
Prices ↑ → Purchasing power ↓
Back then, $1 could realistically get you:
• A canteen snack (or two)
• A drink + change
• Lollies, chips, or a frozen treat
Today, that same $1:
• Often isn’t enough for a single item
• Is rarely used on its own in transactions
• Has largely lost its role as a “standalone purchase” coin
Why?
Inflation (the sustained increase in prices over time) reduces the value of money. Even at relatively low annual rates (2–3%), the effect compounds significantly over decades.
For context:
$1 in the early 1990s is roughly equivalent to around $2.50 today (depending on the year used).
So it’s not that the coin changed — it’s what it can buy that has. That’s purchasing power.
💭 What did $1 get you at the canteen?
Australia will introduce a $5 coin, with mass production now underway as inflation continues to reshape the cash economy.
The Reserve Bank of Australia and Royal Australian Mint have been working on the transition for several years, citing the long-term cost advantages of coins over banknotes, which typically require replacement every few years.
The new coin will feature a bi-metallic design, larger in diameter but thinner than the $1 coin, with an icositetragonal (24-sided) edge to improve tactile recognition and machine compatibility.
“This is about future-proofing Australia’s cash system in an inflationary environment,” an RBA spokesperson said. “As the purchasing power of lower denominations declines, the form of currency needs to evolve alongside it.”
The Royal Australian Mint confirmed production has already commenced, with distribution planning underway.
“We’ve designed the coin to be both practical and distinctive,” a RAM spokesperson said. “The 24-sided edge and bi-metallic structure ensure it is easily identifiable, durable, and ready for widespread circulation across Australia.”
The coin is expected to begin entering circulation by the end of 2026, with the $5 note to co-circulate and remain legal tender until it is phased out of circulation.
Your wallet is about to get heavier.

The Singapore dollar (SGD) is one of Asia’s strongest and most stable currencies — managed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore through exchange rate policy rather than traditional interest rate targeting.
The current “Portrait Series” features Yusof Ishak, Singapore’s first President, alongside bilingual text (English, Mandarin, Malay and Tamil), tactile features for the visually impaired and advanced polymer security elements for the lower denominations.
Additionally, since 1967, Singapore has had a Currency Interchangeability Agreement with Brunei. The Singapore dollar and the Brunei dollar are accepted at par in both countries, and both monetary authorities guarantee convertibility at face value.
Decimal currency was about clarity, simplicity and a fresh start. Valentine’s Day is about knowing what truly holds value.
For six decades we have counted coins, folded notes, upgraded from paper to polymer and watched designs evolve. The numbers may change, the portraits may change, but the idea of value remains.
So if someone in your life is rare, flawless, built to last or simply makes sense, send them one of these.
Because after 60 years of dollars and cents, we all know one thing.
The best things in life are still priceless. ❤️🪙
Somehow, a page that usually talks about coins, banknotes and the slow decline of cash led to me being invited onto the court at RAC Arena for the Halftime Celebrity Showcase during the game.
My sole contribution was an ambitious half-court, backwards shot that technically hit the backboard. No stats were recorded. No replay required.
But jokes aside, the reason for the game mattered far more than the scoreboard. The showcase was about using sport and community to shine a light on the work of, raising awareness around suicide prevention and mental health support here in WA.
If talking about old money helps create space for conversations that can genuinely save lives, then I’ll happily keep missing shots in front of packed arenas.
Grateful for the opportunity, the platform and the reminder that you don’t need to have all the answers - sometimes just showing up is enough.
