Wasn't satisfied with my drawings from a session with a few weeks ago so I took another shot on my ipad the next day using one of his photos.

We draw every Tuesday and you only get better by doing it! As you can see here i make some mistakes, review and correct, experimenting, erasing, trial and error.

This Thursday Feb 19th I'll be at the opening of FXLK PLAY at Long Hall in WeHo, LA. "This exhibition celebrates fifteen years of artists-in-residence at Tom of Finland Foundation and frames TOM House as a living pantheon of Queer mythmaking."

"FXLK PLAY transforms Long Hall into an immersive exhibition of painting, sculpture, and video that evokes the maximalist nature of TOM House and its world-renowned erotic art archive. The exhibition positions the Foundation as a living site of Queer mythmaking."

"Featuring works from Tom of Finland Foundation’s permanent collection and archives, the group show is organized into three thematic collections and features an immersive installation of artists’ videos, a listening station with reflections from past residents, and a comprehensive timeline of TOM House."

Looking forward to seeing and again 😋 and pour one out for our judy

Happy to announce I won 's mural artist competition last night. Thankyou to everyone who voted! My fellow shortlisted artists are just as deserving. and I both voted for.

🏆 It's a real privilege to earn the chance to contribute something to my community! See my Stories to find out which charity I will be donating £2500 to.

✨ Above is a detail of the rough-sketch version of my #streetart design. I've drawn 8 characters (four femme-presenting and 4 more masc-presenting, at least two quite ambiguous!) expressing the queer joy of living authentically, with one withdrawing and disappearing from view.

🌈 My 3 years of experience as a substance & sex specialist advisor suggests this is predominantly a problem among cis gay men, so the character in the image who is vanishing is from that group - though their identity is open to interpretation.

Now that I'm confirmed as the artist I'll continue developing the image, and when a wall in South London is secured by the team at Impulse, the final design can begin - it could be a long wall or a tall wall! More news as this story develops...

Some hashtags to give you a taste of what this #mural is serving 🎨✨👇

You can vote for me in the art project competition by tapping on my face to access my Stories! It's also accessible via my profile here. They've shortlisted 3 artists, one of whom will create a mural somewhere South of the Thames to draw attention to the ch3ms3x crisis in the LGBTQ community.

🗿These portraits are from one of my Pound Shop art zines, now collected as a hardback book. And they're nothing to do with this theme! I only started writing graphic novels about this stuff in 2019 after a close friend confided in me. The #mural is going to be in this style with sharp lines and large blocks of colour, featuring an inclusive cast of femmes, thems, gender non-conforming, people of colour, people living with disability, HIV+, displaced from their homeland - a depiction of the #LGBTQIA UK I live and love in! Not just men with facial hair 😁 The rough sketch I submitted in my proposal will be viewable online soon...

🗣️ Half of the prize money will be donated to the charity where I've volunteered as a Keyworker for 3 years now, that helps LGBTQ people regain control over addiction. Each week I spend an hour with someone who has approached us for help, and I listen, reflect back, weigh up options, and share techniques, information and ideas that can get them where they want to be in life. See my Stories where I've tagged the charity in!

✨ Even though I haven't experienced addiction firsthand, it always feels like it's a bullet that just grazed me, and life could so easily have been different - the clients I work with have such similar stories to mine about being traumatized by growing up normal in a world that insists only heterosexuality is correct and everything else is unacceptable.

🍞 Which is like saying only bread is food, so beans on toast is a criminal offense, a sandwich is an abomination and croutons in your cream of mushroom is heresy. Keep your dry plain life Hetty, we eatin!

❤️‍🔥 Voting is really simple, take a look and choose with your heart! The other two artists are also very deserving of this opportunity. Ask in the comments for a DM with the details if you can't see where to click!
I've been shortlisted by for a mural commission in South London to draw attention to the ch3ms3x crisis in the LGBTQ community. You can vote for me in my Stories or tap the blue text on my account, it only takes a moment! But follow your heart, as the other artists are also great and just as deserving. Half of the £5k prize will be going the charity of my choice, so I will be choosing the LGBTQ addiction charity I've been volunteering for as a keyworker since 2022. (If I tag them here this post will be suppressed so see my Stories for more!)

🌎 You can vote wherever you are in the world!

🫂 I've proposed a design depicting an inclusive cast of QTPoC, non-binary, gender non-conforming, AFAB, AMAB, with disabilities visible and invisible, living with HIV, immigrant, neurodiverse individuals, survivors, lovers and friends in an attempt to represent the diversity of our community, but with someone missing; a person-shaped hole to represent those of us withdrawing and fading silently from public life. I'll share the rough design in the next week or two, it will be in my digital portrait style like the pic above.

🗣️ The stories that clients tell me in my keyworking sessions, they're not sharing with their partners, their family, their doctor or even their therapist. It's a very quiet epidemic and people are suffering in isolation and silence. In place of shame around addiction, I would hope to encourage pride in recovery. Everybody falls, it's the getting back up that's extraordinary.

❤️‍🔥 As I've said elsewhere I'm not in recovery myself, this has just become a cause close to my heart the more I've written about it and volunteered in this space, and it's a much bigger problem than most people realise! I'm going to keep banging this drum 🥁 for years to come.

✊ Silence = _ _ _ _ _

True story...

🌞 My Artist Residency has been transformative, creatively and personally, and this Thursday 5-8pm the curtain rises on the body of work I've produced (so far) in the East Los Angeles house where Tom lived and worked with his partner Durk Dehner, who has been a mentor, raconteur, Daddy, showman, curator, master of ceremonies, and who selflessly nursed me through my mystery illness.
.
🌞 He and the staff and volunteers at the House are incredibly passionate about and dedicated to #LGBTQIA #art and #artists, and proudly carry the flame for one of the greatest queer aesthetic visionaries of all time. It's pretty special to have the chance to show work at this institution. See my Stories to guarantee your place!
