Rest Corner is a free, 20-minute weekly drop-in; a gentle space to breathe, soften, and reset.
Guided by founder Eliza, each session offers a simple rest practice drawn from yoga and mindfulness, such as meditation, yoga nidra, gentle sound, breathwork, or guided relaxation.
There’s nothing you need to bring and or prepare. Sessions will be held in the reading room. You’ll be seated comfortably on a chair or sofa, and you’re welcome exactly as you are.
Rest Corner is an invitation to slow down without needing to fix yourself or become a “new” version of you, especially in January, when the pressure to change can feel loud.
The bookshop already holds a calm, nourishing energy. Rest Corner simply makes a little more room for it.
Free to join. No booking required. All are welcome.

The shop is filled with our heart and soul all year round but it’s always great to celebrate it with you during the festive times. ❤️
We’re all resting today and hope you are too but will be open on the 27th & 28th. ❤️
Thanks again to for these photos! ❤️
Okay, one more time, THANK YOU ALL!!! ❤️
Celebrating the launch of So’s latest book “Bad Language”, the two will be discussing the politics of speech: what is the relationship between language and sexual violence? And how can we ‘make ourselves up’ in language when words themselves are encoded by a dominant culture that insists we see ourselves as powerless listeners rather than active speakers?
It is sure to be a fascinating evening with lots to discuss, including the opportunity to ask So questions.
Get your tickets booked in asap: we are sounding like a broken record here but if you don’t book your tickets in advance then we can’t guarantee the event will go ahead, especially when authors travel down for us. We love our creative community to let’s keep supporting it by going out on a January evening and ingesting some thoughtful conversation!
As usual tickets are £5 but the cost is a deposit against any books bought on the evening, and if the cost is inaccessible to you then send us an email to sort an alternative - and if you can afford it, consider buying someone else a ticket via our pay-it-forward system.
If you’ve read this far then comment a book emoji and let us know if you’ll be coming 📚🗓️
In all honesty, July was harder than we expected financially, so anything extra you can do over this last week of the month will be appreciated even more than usual. Pop into the shop and buy just one thing, order a book via or Hive, expand your listening into audiobooks via Libro.fm - even just one small action makes a big difference to us.
And this goes for other indie businesses too! Go one step further on your walk to get your coffee from an indie, to buy your groceries locally-sourced, to buy your clothes secondhand or through an independent shop - we promise even just one purchase can make our day 🥰
Thank you for all your support as always, we look forward to seeing you in store soon! ☀️
