Today I picked up my camera after years of it mostly sitting around and went out and had a nice afternoon to myself, shooting and snacking. (95% snacking 5% shooting if I’m being honest, ok.)

I have recently decided to get back into photography and while I am still very beginner, keep learning and trying to grow my skills. Just as a creative outlet. Anyone following me from "real life" knows I am a mom to twin boys with several medical conditions and special needs, so that is stressful at times and I find myself needing something to unwind, something just for me, something to challenge me intellectually and creatively.

I have always loved photography, though I have never considered it part of my life or anything I could become good at. I just thought everyone spent their childhood shooting 2-3 rolls a day (film, of course). I took portraits of my Beanie Babies mostly. #90sBaby 🤦🏼♀️ And walked around framing imaginary shots in my mind when I didn’t have my camera (a Bell + Howell champagne gold 35mm thankyouverymuch). My grandpa bought me that camera for my birthday one year, I think 8th or 9th. He also developed all my film for me, unbeknownst to me at the time at a cost of around $10 a roll. He never told me the cost or complained about my boring photos of squirrels or trees.

In high school, I got my first film SLR camera (a 1970s Pentax I still have) and loved learning to shoot manual and develop my own photos. After that, I had some cheap digital cameras but didn't do much with them. Now, I'm excited to study more about street photography... Today it even felt weird to go out with a camera strapped around my neck so it was a challenge to myself to even walk around like that. I was too shy to approach anyone for a photo today, too... but I passed this construction site and liked the lines of it in the split second I saw it, so I stopped to snap this.

I hope to use this space to post what I think is my best work at the time (laughably beginner for now I'm sure), and watch myself grow! And connect with other photographers to learn from as well. ❤️
