Itโs quick, free, and could save your life.
In the UK, bowel cancer screening is done using the FIT test (Faecal Immunochemical Test). Itโs a simple, at-home test that checks for tiny amounts of blood in your poo, which can be an early sign of cancer. People aged between 50 to 74 years are invited for bowel cancer screening every 2 years. People older than this can ask for a screening kit every 2 years by calling a free helpline.
Bowel cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the UK and the second biggest cause of cancer deaths overall. Screening can help spot signs before symptoms even appear and sometimes even prevent it. Early detection saves lives. In fact, over 9 in 10 people will survive bowel cancer if itโs caught at the earliest stage.
So,
โWhen youโre invited for your bowel screening, please donโt forget to take part and send off your sample.โ

๐ฌIโm currently doing a PhD at Imperial College London in surgical innovation and cancer diagnosis. Iโve taken time out of training to do this full-time.
