I started the day of the competition with the lyrics of this song of in my ears, as my bestie prescribed it. She sent me a text saying I should not forget that whatever the result, everybody will be proud of me and that I’m already a winner. I couldn’t hold my tears because I was under such a pressure. How is one supposed to represent the hopes of an entire country + community without being scared?
I went on the D-Day wanting to give my very best, and if it was not going to be enough, at least I’ll show the world what I’m capable of. But…
Let’s be honest, the fact is that the competition didn’t go as planned at all. I had the opportunity to discuss it with the players and all the organizers: this was such a messy event. The biggest black spot is obviously the scoring and how its lack of operation was handled. I was the first one to tell the organizers on the day before the final: « joycons and events don’t go well together, there’s a huge possibility disconnections will happen tomorrow… in that case, what will we do? ». As an answer, I can just tell you I received a message of hope: « we think it will still be fair ». Well, the rest is history and I’ll let everybody have their own opinion about it. I just think nobody should blame any competitor for what happened because we genuinely had no power. We did what we were told to do, and we gave our best to overcome the difficulties. For the record, in my book, are all deserving winners. And I genuinely hope the next competitions will be better.
