Turns out… mushrooms are usually a sign of healthy soil biology. They show up when organic matter like wood chips, mulch, cardboard, and sticks start breaking down and feeding the soil.
Basically: living soil = active fungi 🌱

My husband surprised me by putting together this 4x2x2.7 ft elevated raised bed from and honestly… it fits perfectly next to my greenhouse.
I filled the bottom with cardboard, sticks, and pinecones to help cut down on soil costs before topping it off with raised bed mix and planting everything out. I also LOVE that the galvanized steel gives it such a clean look while the elevated design makes gardening easier on your back.

The biggest thing I’ve learned so far? Don’t rush to hill them up too early.
Most of mine are only around 3–4 inches tall, so I’m waiting a little longer before adding more soil or straw around the stems.
I’m growing these in fabric grow bags to save space and test a more beginner-friendly way to grow potatoes 👀
