Every one of them said some version of the same thing, which is that they are scared, they do not fully trust the government to protect them, and they would rather have the license and the training and decide later about the gun than wait until they need it and have neither.
People opposed to this are going to have to grapple with the pattern at some point. When people feel unsafe, they buy guns.
