May your days be merry & bright, filled with peace and brimming with hope.
Muskoka was recently turned into a snow globe once again with the first snowfall of the season, taking me back to this cozy cottage shoot with and at ’s Lake Joe retreat. I can think of nothing more peaceful than soaking in that view while luxuriating in heaven and wrapping up in the hug of a towel. Thanks for the memory,!
Cheers to finishing the year trying softer instead of trying harder. Cheers to choosing the people and rhythms that fuel our well-being, not just our careers. Cheers to celebrating what we learned from the hard stuff and lingering with our gratitudes. Cheers to embracing our worthiness apart from our productivity. Cheers to starting the New Year embracing the grace of a new morning, not the pressure of resolutions driven by hustle culture. Cheers to working smarter, not harder, so we can live with more joy and less fear. Cheer, friends. Here’s to 2024.

Wild. It’s the only word that came to mind when thinking about the direction for the mantle; a metaphor for the year. The thing about wild is we can’t control it - it’s well beyond us - but it embodies a kind of beauty we can’t create on our own terms. Maybe you’re finishing up a year that was pretty wild, too. If so, I pray for both of us that we will see the beauty in what we cannot control, and discover that for all the wildness of it, Hope has never left our side.
Headed to celebrate the birthday of my friend today, so it’s only appropriate that has featured my styling of her home for Christmas in their latest issue! Styling for Christmas may just be my favourite, and doing so in a place where the poetry of nature can take centre stage is always a delight. Thank you,, for being a dream to work with. Will share more from this shoot soon! For now, I’m off to get dressed for the party! x
That moment when your client gets the keys to their new home in France, and your first move is to install a stunning art mirror above the fireplace (because, priorities).
She bloomed late this year, our cherry tree. She’s resplendent now, but there was a moment - when winter wouldn’t relent - that I wondered if we would see any blossoms at all. ⁣

At no point did I think our cherry tree would be to blame should her beauty not appear. Never did I think to berate her for not unfurling in the midst of such harsh and unsafe conditions. ⁣I saw the wisdom in her timing.

And yet, I don’t always offer myself the same kindness. I set due dates for milestones and achievements which, if they haven’t been reached by a certain stage, are proof I’m somehow not enough.

Perhaps I need to care for myself the way I do my cherry tree, offering her the tender care that acknowledges that her environment is very much a factor in her blossoming, and giving her the loving patience she needs to know that when she does unfold in all her glory, the timing will be perfect. ⁣#lessonsfromthegarden #cherryblossoms #anaïsnin
It was weird and wonderful to attend today. Here’s to seeing the Canadian design community flourish as we serve to restore a sense of beauty and well-being to our communities through the spaces we create. May we tell meaningful stories and evoke a sense of calm and connection that leads us back to what matters most: each other.
I’ve been thinking a lot about the concept of pursuing excellence rather than perfection lately. I explore this a lot in my design thinking - the wabi sabi of what moves my soul exactly BECAUSE of its imperfection. ⁣

But this time, the thought was prompted by a devotional talking about the balance between patience and pursuit and the need to embrace both virtues; listening for when it’s time to be still and trust, and when it’s time to be courageous and step out, actively pursuing excellence.⁣

This led me to think about the idea of pursuing excellence (which is empowering) versus being trapped in the paralysis of chasing perfection (which is never achievable).⁣

My friend lovingly told me years ago that I struggle with social perfectionism. She was right, as she has a habit of being. As a recovering people-pleaser, I don’t ever want to offend or disappoint anyone. My worst fear is that I’ve hurt someone I love. It even bothers me greatly when someone I don’t like doesn’t like me (like, girl, seriously?). I live with this low level anxiety that is quick to convince me that people are generally just mad at me all the time. It’s not a healthy baseline, and yes, I’m working on it. ⁣

When your client gasps and cries twice in the presentation, you know the design concept has hit the mark. I truly love what I do. 🤍
