We are are using zoning laws, safety inspections, utility restrictions, and legal pressure to shut these facilities down.
There’s also a bill moving through the CA legislature right now — SB 995, the Masuma Khan Justice Act. It would give state agencies the power to inspect private detention centers, fine operators up to $25k per violation per day, and pull their permits if they don’t comply.
Call your state senator and assembly member and tell them to vote yes on SB 995.
