Spent this rainy January day enjoying a family lunch with the college kids still on Christmas break, a little last pause before the holiday season officially ends with the Monday morning alarm. We wandered a few local shops along King Street and then came home to cozy up by a Christmas tree we’re not quite ready to let go of.

This photo is from the archives. Fallen red leaves resting between two historic homes, a simple wreath, a black wrought iron gate on King Street in Charleston. Even after Christmas, those colors keep calling me back.
The early part of the year is not always the most photogenic here, but the pull to create is still there. I can feel it, even if I am not yet sure what it wants to become.
Over the holidays I noticed my ISO climbing higher than usual. If you are a photographer, you understand. It has me thinking about a wider, fixed aperture lens that does not require a small fortune. Always learning, always refining.
We also added a Ninja coffee maker to our mornings and I am still figuring it out. Apparently this in between week is for learning new things, one cup at a time.
This quiet stretch between Christmas and New Year’s feels reflective. A few lingering to do items remain, but I am looking ahead with hope. More fitness, more momentum in real estate for Chris, and thoughtful changes that let me fully enjoy this season of life.

Evergreen boughs, white walls, and the soft glow between Christmas and New Year’s.
That nostalgic pull to linger, even as the mind wants to move ahead—aware that everyday life waits just around the corner.
Well, Christmas was busy today and we were unable to get out and continue some festive shopping and eating in downtown Charleston, but I did find that local radio station is continuing to play Christmas music, such a nice service to the community of Christmas lovers.

Last night I didn’t even have my camera with me which honestly hurt a little, but these moments were still too good not to capture. Sometimes video is just as fun. The movement, the light, the way the city settles into the evening.

Will I actually make it to 25 days? Stick around and find out…
Today my daughter and I snuck away for a couple of hours — stopped for Chick-fil-A and went across the street to on Folly Road. First stop: the Christmas Shop, which truly has everything you could possibly imagine for the season. Ribbons, bows, trees, ornaments, and of course the iconic Frasier Fir candle.
Then we wandered next door to the garden center, which ended up being our favorite part. Their Christmas trees are unbelievable — full, lush, and honestly unlike anything you’ll see anywhere else (and the prices are surprisingly good!). Evie fell in love with some snapdragons, so naturally a few came home with us. I grabbed some paperwhites and the most gorgeous red cyclamen, plus a wreath for the porch. has it all for your Christmas porch or for gifting!
We headed home, planted our finds, and made the house feel a little more like Christmas.

Festive touches are starting to show up all around downtown Charleston, and it finally feels like the holidays are here. We’ll call this Day 1 of “Reelmas,” with no promises I’ll actually make it to all 25 days, but I do love sharing these little glimpses of the season with you.
Take a behind the scenes peek of the preparations…whatever it takes to get this Meeting Street favorite holiday-ready… and trust me, it takes a lot. Three trucks, several designers, and even a hydraulic lift to bring the magic together.
