I quietly turned 40 at the end of January, amidst the snowiest, most frigid stretch of winter we’ve had since moving to Ohio 9 years ago. (We also had multiple unexpected old house repairs spring up from Oct - Jan. Because of course. 🫩 Nothing major, just chaotically stressful and frustrating!) Feeling very cold and very tired, I just didn’t feel like planning anything for the big Four Oh. So, Tim and I went out to a wonderful dinner. A vacation might be in the works for later this year, who knows? 🤔 Coincidentally, was already scheduled to have new headshots taken not long after. So here I am, freshly 40. Ready for a long nap. Ready to take on the next decade. (I think.) And ready to thaw the F out!

Hi, hello there! 👋🏼 Catching up with a late post that was “due” last week for #52weeksofhome: “Curb Appeal & Greenery”! 🌿 Our neighborhood’s annual festival was last weekend, and we spent the previous month-ish trying to make our front yard look presentable for the thousands of people that would inevitably be looking at our house. 🫣 Every year we bring the wicker out of storage for the summer, and start the mad dash to plant as many flowers as possible. And this year was no exception. Vincas, begonias, geraniums, and more! Everything looks so nice until we forget to water it all. 😂

“Emotions” 🥹 is the theme for the #52weeksofhome prompt this week. There are so many spots in the house that make me “emotional” from an architectural or design standpoint. But sometimes, as in photography, it’s about capturing THE fleeting moment. And here, I ran for my camera to capture the afternoon light filtering through the lace curtain panel onto the vestibule doorknob. It was THE moment, and I wasn’t even thinking about this week’s prompt. ✨🚪

May is Historic Preservation Month, and what better way to celebrate than to share more of the restoration journey (so far!) of the cottage. 🗝️ After rebuilding the foundation and front porch, we decided to do something less scary and very practical: install a driveway. 🚗

There’s literally no room to have a driveway between the houses, re/building a garage was too much for the tiny postage stamp-sized backyard, and having ONLY on-street parking just wasn’t an option. As you can tell from one of historic Sanborn maps (correct me if I’m wrong friends!) there was some kind of garage, or…something on the lot in the past. Long story short, the new driveway is the first step in making a significant impact on the space. More to come!

🤑 Tim and I always dreamed of buying and saving an old house, but knew we’d never be able to afford one in San Francisco or the Bay Area.

✈️ So in 2017, we left our families and took a chance on Toledo, Ohio.

🏡 And in 2021, we found our literal dream home - truly better than anything we could have imagined (or afforded back home.)

⚡️ When lightning struck twice, and another, smaller dream home hit the market in Spring 2023, we decided to go for it and take a second chance.

🔮 Fast forward a grueling 10 months, and we’re now the proud owners of the Historic Gordon-Cratz Cottage.

🚧 While she’s an 11/10, she still needs some serious work before she’s ready for guests. Stay tuned!
