Moor than a sunrise…

First light stretching over Dartmoor earlier this January. Sunrise will forever be my absolute favourite time of day, if you can force yourself out of bed it offers a peace and connection like no other.

📍 Stockhill Woods

Beneath the trees lie the traces of over 2,000 years of lead mining, with uneven ground and rocky outcrops quietly revealing the woodland’s past. The blend of natural forest and industrial archaeology gives Stockhill Woods a uniquely atmospheric, time-layered feel.

The Wall…

From Pen y Crug, winter light ripples across the patchwork fields towards the towering Bannau Brycheiniog ❄️
Once shaped by Ice Age glaciers, these ancient peaks take their name from bannau (peaks) and Brychan, a 5th-century Welsh king. Home to Pen y Fan, the highest summit in southern Britain, this landscape has been walked, farmed and fought over for thousands of years.
Hen dir, hen enaid — old land, old soul.

The Wolf Moon setting over the Welsh countryside last weekend — the year’s first Supermoon, named for the wolves once heard howling through midwinter nights, appearing larger and brighter as it sinks toward the horizon. Pretty sure I caught a red kite gliding across the dawn sky as well judging by the wings and tail?

Take a moment…

Standing on Pen y Crug, an Iron Age hill fort built over 2,000 years ago, once home to the Silures tribe who fiercely resisted Roman invasion. From this ancient stronghold, the Brecon Beacons roll out exactly as they would have to its original inhabitants — winter sun, snow-dusted peaks, and all.

I’ve been waiting for the right conditions to bag this shot, Sunday was the day.

The morning’s first, cold winter light falling across Priddy Barrows on the Mendips.

The low sun briefly picking out the Bronze Age burial mounds, allowing them to glow against the frost while casting their own shadows across each other. Behind them an unexpected bonus as they lined up perfectly with the setting full Wolf Moon.

Priddy Barrows is one of the largest Bronze Age cemetery complexes in southern England, dating back to around 2000 BC, offering a rare glimpse into how our ancestors honoured the dead and marked the landscape.

A fleeting moment, thousands of years in the making.
