This Superocean clearly marks the starting point of Breitling’s dive watch history. The very first generations were produced in extremely limited quantities, which explains why they are now virtually impossible to find. For a collector of dive watches, this is a truly essential piece, a real historical must-have.
What makes this example even more desirable is its condition. Everything is strictly original: dial, luminous material, bezel, bracelet. The patina is spectacular, deep, and even—exactly what one looks for on this type of watch. It’s not yet an exorbitantly priced watch, but it is, on the other hand, an extremely rare piece.
Frankly, faced with a Superocean of this caliber, in this condition, and with this patina, there’s really no question about it. For anyone seriously interested in vintage dive watches, this is an exceptional opportunity.
This is a Calatrava Disco Volante, typical of IWC’s production in the 1950s, a period during which the manufacture was still experimenting with bold proportions and dial variations that are highly sought after today. While some brands offered dial designs that vaguely evoked this style, they were almost always housed in significantly smaller cases. Here, the balance of proportions is remarkable and testifies to a true mastery of design.
The watch is, of course, 100% original. An exceptional piece in IWC’s 1950s production, both unique and surprisingly modern, rarely encountered in this configuration.
But above all, what matters is its incredible history.
This particular watch was presented in the 1980s by Rashid bin Said Al Maktoum, then Emir of Dubai, to Ali Yata, a prominent Moroccan political and intellectual figure. At that time, offering a gold Rolex was a powerful diplomatic gesture, a symbol of respect, recognition, and prestige between leaders.
This is a true piece of Rolex history, representative of the golden age when the Al Maktoum family presented watches to leading political figures and influential personalities. It’s both a small piece of history and, at the same time, an easy-to-wear, everyday watch that’s elegant and effortless on the wrist. A piece with a particularly interesting mix of historical significance and everyday use.
This triple-date Breguet, with its salmon-colored dial, is simply extraordinary. Dated 1956, it’s a model that is almost never seen. Personally, I’ve never seen another comparable one.
It comes directly from the original family. Its first owner was a military man named Curie. Active in the Resistance during World War II, he founded a company called Sécurité Parisienne in the early 1950s, specializing in equipment for firefighters. The company enjoyed great success, and this Breguet became the ultimate achievement, the dream watch for someone who had made it and wanted the most prestigious timepiece available.
The watch is absolutely incredible, both in terms of its complexity and its aesthetics. Today, the perception of Breguet has changed dramatically. Collectors finally recognize its true value. These watches are far rarer than Patek Philippes of the same era, rarer than most of the major brands on the market, and they offer a design of exceptional elegance.
Above all, they benefit from a unique level of documentation thanks to the brand’s archives, which gives them unparalleled historical legitimacy. This triple date is not simply a great vintage watch; it is a museum piece, a major horological work, a true masterpiece.
This watch was produced in extremely limited numbers. It’s estimated that only ten to fifteen were made each year, over a relatively short period. At the time, it wasn’t a watch intended for the general public: it was reserved for very important people, presidents, leading actors, major figures of their time.
Its distinctive feature, and what makes it so magical, is its curved case. Fitting a mechanical movement into such a curved case was a true technical feat for the time, while maintaining this incredibly elegant shape. This is the beginning of the American Tank, but above all, the flagship, iconic model of the 1920s.
We recently sold a platinum example for over €600,000, which gives a very clear idea of the importance and desirability of this model. Here, we have a yellow gold example, absolutely authentic. And this is a crucial point, as there are a great many fakes and modified watches, particularly pieces reassembled or altered in the 1990s.
This example has been verified at Cartier. It retains its original European Watch movement, and most importantly, the numbers match: the case number corresponds exactly to the movement number engraved on the mainplate. This is a fundamental detail for this type of watch.
We are looking at an absolutely incredible piece. An original watch, over 100 years old, almost a museum piece, for a price that remains reasonable given its historical significance. These are precisely the kinds of watches, completely authentic and never modified, that are bought by true collectors.
Why is it so rare? Firstly, because it’s a platinum Day-Date, which was extremely uncommon at the time. But above all, because it bears the Omani coat of arms, with the famous red Kanjar cross on the dial. That alone is a very strong identifier.
And then there’s the bracelet. A platinum Jubilee bracelet. And here we’re dealing with something virtually unique. Only three or four Day-Dates with a platinum Jubilee bracelet are known to exist. It’s truly exceptional.
The overall impression is very clear that this was a special order. All known Day-Dates with this platinum Jubilee bracelet are bespoke watches, made to order for truly exceptional clients. This isn’t standard production; it’s a very high-level Rolex special order.
This watch has appeared at auction several times, and each time, it has made a lasting impression. It truly is one of the most alluring and important Day-Dates ever made. It ticks all the boxes: platinum, the extreme rarity of the bracelet, and of course, the Oman signature with the Kanjar.
It’s an iconic, historic piece, and clearly at the pinnacle of collectible Day-Dates.
This exceptional example comes from the family of its first owner, who bought it new in 1921 before passing it on to his son. He eventually sold it at auction a few years ago.
The condition is simply incredible: the watch has never been polished and retains remarkably crisp lines. As an added bonus, the case back is also platinum, whereas most of these models had a rose gold case back.
It has been serviced at Cartier several times and comes with an impressive archive file, including all the service records and numerous written correspondence with the company.
It’s so exceptional that it could almost be displayed in a museum… but it would look just as good on your wrist, if you can afford it. Yes, a few watches will probably have to be sold to finance it—but in a collector’s life, opportunities to buy a platinum Tank Cintrée are simply nonexistent. Or almost.
Produced in barely twenty examples, this platinum Tank Cintrée is one of those watches you only come across once in a lifetime. And above all, it’s a genuine one.
Let’s be perfectly clear from the outset: this is not a Day-Date, but a Date—which makes this piece all the more perplexing and fascinating.
A Rolex Date in white gold is already a complete anomaly in itself. It’s a watch that simply didn’t exist in Rolex’s classic production.
The reference 1506 here designates a bezel with a « tree bark » finish, a characteristic almost exclusively associated with Day-Dates, yet found on this extremely rare Date. These watches were produced in minuscule quantities during the 1970s, primarily for the British market.
We’re talking about absolutely rare pieces: personally, I’ve seen no more than two or three in my entire career.
This example goes even further with a unique dial, playing on a double blue with two distinct finishes, offering spectacular depth and elegance.
