This beautifully appointed studio is in a historic Bay & Gable townhouse. Natural light poured beautifully onto the herringbone floors. The studio is outfitted with wood walls and a bench in the front bay is picture perfect.

Esther was a trailblazer in her own right, carrying on the legacy that her mother Lotte Berk started.
The world has lost a gem but we will continue to honour her legacy and achievements through celebrating the art of movement and passing on these incredible exercises to future generations.
Although I never did get to meet her I’ve heard so many great stories through others about her wisdom, her wit, humour and generosity.
If you haven’t read her books, especially her first one, I’d highly recommend it.

This list focuses on the brick and mortar studios that offer barre as their primary or secondary offering. There are many places that offer barre up to a few times a week at other businesses from independent yoga and Pilates studios to big box gyms and private clubs but there are just too many to name.
I should also mention that the barre scene in the city used to be at least 50% bigger before the pandemic. Sadly some studios shut down in the last few years. The hopeful news is that in the last little while we’ve also seen some new businesses open.

I'm FINALLY going to be going on ’s fall retreat, and I couldn't be more excited to be going to the English countryside to learn more about the origins of barre.
