This creamy sauce gets its rich, smoky flavour from slowly caramelised onions and chorizo (or smoked turkey bacon) from It’s delicious served with Polyudsky, pasta, gnocchi, roasted potatoes, or simply with some crusty bread, why not? 😉
Ingredients:
-2-4 onions, finely sliced (the longer you cook them, the deeper and more intense the flavour of the sauce becomes)
- 2 chorizo sausages or 2 packs of smoked turkey bacon (I used the ones from Albert Heijn)
- 2 knobs of butter
- 200 ml heavy cream (if you’re using clotted cream, it’s thicker and won’t need as much time to reduce)
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- Black pepper and a pinch of sugar
- Salt, to taste

My mother used to make these Surinamese chicken pastries for us as a snack all the time. She even made my dad deliver them to my house whenever I craved them. I honestly don’t know any different than being spoiled with delicious homemade treats, because my sweet mom loved taking care of us and food was her language. Now you know why I love feeding my people ☺️
Ingredients:
- Cooked chicken (cook in chicken bouillon, cellery leaves, all spice berries “piment korrels”
- Onions, garlic, Madame Jeanette pepper, allspice berries, bay leaves, Maggi seasoning
- Peas, carrots, and corn (fresh or canned)
- Pickled onions, gherkins, capers (finely chopped) and a dollop of piccalilli (the Picachilli from is sucha vibe for this recipe, no spon)
- Leek, celery, parsley, or mixed soup vegetables

For my non-Dutch followers: an AVG is a classic Dutch dinner consisting of potatoes (Aardappelen), meat (Vlees) and vegetables (Groente). This time, I gave it a Korean twist and turned it into an RVG instead: Ramyun, Meat & Veggies.
I made Korean Fried Chicken Ramyun and served it with extra Korean Fried Chicken (duhhh) and Broccoli on the side. It was done in a jiffy, it’s packed with flavour and perfect for those midweek (easy) meals.
And the best part? The bibigo Ramyun are available at selected stores and come in four tasty flavours. So, there’s a favourite for everyone, because some like it hot and some like it not 😉

In this series, I share my favorite money-saving tips, recipes, and budget-friendly finds.
Today we have this Breadpudding inspired by and his delicious Pan Bolo! I made a few small tweaks, and the result was amazing. This is the perfect recipe for using up stale bread and turning it into something truly special.
Ingredients:
- 10 slices whole wheat bread
- 2 heaping tbsp butter
- 4 eggs
- 100 g brown or cane sugar
- 1 packet vanilla sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla paste or extract
- 1 tbsp cinnamon
- 1–2 tbsp cinnamon liqueur or Borgoe Rum
Instructions:
Bake the Breadpudding in a preheated oven at 175°C (350°F) for 45 minutes. Let it cool completely and chill overnight for the best texture (optional). Serve with custard of just have it like this.
