Posted • Hello everyone!

We had an amazing pop-up lined up for this Saturday, but since temperatures are going to exceed 100° that day, we are putting a hold on it for now.

Instead, we are going to concentrate our efforts on making sure folks stay cool during this crazy hot weather!

We are teaming up with for the entirety of this summer to provide folks with adequate sunscreen, water, gatorade, snacks, and other essential necessities!

If you have any of the aforementioned items, we have a couple of drop spots where they can be left for distribution down below:

-Bunk Bar Water.
-Aveda Institute Portland.
-The building on 2816 NE Halsey St.

We are also taking monetary donations to buy refreshments and supplies as well via Venmo, cashapp, and our donor box link in our bio! If you'd like a receipt for tax purposes, we will make sure you get one!

Our cashapp and venmo are the same; mealsonuspdx. The last 4 digits for confirmation are 7313.

Thank you so much!

ID: Déjà, a fat dark skinned Black femme trans woman is throwing her head back with a contented smile. Her arms are raised upward as if to grasp and embrace the entire sky, all of life and all that there is under the sun’s light. She is bathed in sunlight and wears a red two piece swimsuit, her hair is cut very low to almost bald. The blurry background shows grass, shade from a massive tree, and some unidentifiable strangers in the distance.

Post via • CW for Black people who been inundated yet again with media of police violence and police brutality. You do not have to read this if you do not have the bandwidth or do and don’t want to expend it on more discussion around anti-Black violence. Rest, if you can.

I don’t want reform, I want abolition.

Demanding reform in the face of the countless murders of Black people at the hands of police is a distancing behavior. It is a distraction.

Policing in this country was created to surveil and patrol Black people. How could that be reformed?

We go through the same cycle over and over again - a police officer murders a Black person. We protest. We scream that Black Lives Matter. They go to court. They’re acquitted or in some cases, they’re sent to prison. Do the murders stop? Do Black trans people stop being afraid to defend themselves when they’re being abused because they don’t want police to be called and risk being assaulted by police? No.

Do Black women stop being pulled over and harassed by police officers? No.

Do police officers stop harassing Black sex workers and using the threat of prison as a means to abuse their power, as a right to assault and torture? No. Do police stop murdering us because “I thought the chewing gum wrapper was a rifle?” You know the answer. The answer is no.

If you have a weed in the garden, you don’t cut off a flower or two and call it a day. You dig to the bottom and you pull the roots up.

Contemporary policing was founded on the enslavement, torture, and murder of Black people. We cannot turn that into something beautiful, something kind, something helpful.

We have to pull up from the root. Defund and abolish the police.

Stop killing us.

Repost via “For clarity: We have been coordinating with and for Chyna and Daunte Jr. only. Although we have been in contact with the aunt of Daunte, we are only collecting support for Chyna and their son. These needs and cash tags have been confirmed and told by Chyna herself and any other information on HER behalf should be questioned. She does not have a personal mailing address to receive mail, but you can look on her Amazon wishlist for things she has requested. All of her direct cash tags are here, so please send funds this way from this point on.

The items listed are ONLY for local people to want to drop off the needs. Again, NO MAILING OR SHIPPING AS OF NOW.

We will continue to update you all of their needs if they change. Thank you for your endless support for her and Daunte Jr. She is deeply grateful as she grieves and mourns.”

TW: suicide 👇🏻
.
From Desiree’s go fund me - “i just got out of the psych hospital for a suicide attempt and covid-19, and was hospitalized twice within two months.right now, i just want to start over a new in a state that supports my wellness, and that is back home in California.”
.
Post information from the book, The Heart of Trauma by Bonnie Badenoch. I highly recommend checking out the entire book!
.
Edit: trauma makes it harder to move into a right brain space - not left. I have a typo on slide 4!
.
Research suggests that about 75% of people in the United States spend most of our time in a left dominant space. First & foremost, neither hemisphere is bad. They both serve different purposes and orient our thinking and way of showing up in the world in different ways. The left brain hemisphere is analytical, values the explicit, is goal driven, focused on ourselves, and is self-reliant. The right is much more relational and is attuned to “the suffering and potential meaningfulness of life” (Badenoch, 2018).

Existing in a primarily left-dominate state leaves us disconnected from our bodies many signals. Embodiment becomes a struggle in a left-dominant world. We might feel very “in our heads” and like we are just moving through life as if it is a check list of things to get done.

So why are many of us existing in a primarily left brained dominant space? There are many different reasons. Bodenoch talks about how trauma can cause moving into a right brain space to feel overwhelming and scary. She also discusses how we take in on average 174 newspapers worth of info each day - overwhelming our brains processing ability (Levitin, 2014; Bodenoch, 2018). Instinctively, this causes many of us to move to a left brain space to cope.

Reading this post engages the left brain hemisphere. Take a moment to notice how that feels - do you feel like you’re quickly skimming this to check off a box? Do you notice your body?

If it feels accessible to you, consider thinking on the following questions:
✨ what does it feel like when you’re in a more right dominated brain space? Or a left dominated brain space? What activities engage each space for you? Where do you tend to spend most of your time? What feelings come up when you think about spending more time in the right hemisphere brain space?

First and foremost, I am writing this post as a non-binary & autistic person. On all topics, it Is important to learn from those who have lived experience versus those who are not apart of said community. Example) learn about being autistic from autistic folks.

Autistic people are 3-6x more likely to be gender diverse* than neurotypical people. Gender diverse people are 3-6x more likely to be autistic than cisgender people. There is a large crossover between the trans / non-binary / gender diverse community and the autistic community. So what does that mean? Many autistic gender diverse people exist! (hello to all of y’all reading this👋🏻)

For providers: if you work with either community - gender diverse folks or autistic folks - it’s important you are aware of this large overlap for a variety of reasons. For example, many gender diverse folks, in particular those who are assigned female at birth, never receive an autism diagnosis from a provider. And if diagnosis is sought out misdiagnosis is a common occurrence.

For gender diverse people: you have a higher chance of being autistic than cisgender people. This may bring up a variety of feelings and that’s okay! Notice what beliefs, thoughts, and sensations come up.

For autistic people, neurotypical people, gender diverse people, cis people, all people: Consider exploring your gender. Gender (and sexuality) are often fluid and ever changing. Take a moment to notice what feelings come up when you consider this possibility (excitement? discomfort? Avoidance? Euphoria?)

*gender diverse is an umbrella term for those who are trans, non-binary, gender fluid, gender queer, agender, pangender, bigender, and so on.

Pronouns & suicide (TW) 👇🏻
.
According to a 2020 survey done by the Trevor Project, trans and non-binary youth who reported their pronouns were respected by all or most people in their lives attempted suicide at half the rate of those who did not have their pronouns respected.
.
‼️ A 50% reduction in suicide attempts when correct pronouns were used ‼️
.
Providers: use the correct pronouns for the people you serve! And use them always. In your notes, in correspondence with other providers, in conversation, everywhere.
