We feel truly honoured to have been invited to the International Filigree Exhibition in Campo Ligure 20-21 June 2026, hosted by the Carlo Bosio Filigree Museum and organised by the Municipality of Campo Ligure.
The international part of the exhibition was curated by Roberta Bernabei. It was a privilege to share our approach to how a centuries-old technique can evolve within contemporary jewellery practice.
Our sincere thanks to for the thoughtful moderation and translation, and to all the organisers and everyone who was involved for their warmth and generosity throughout the weekend.
A special thank you as well to for the generous factory tour that made our visit even more memorable.

Dilara Schirinzi’s master’s project The Shape of Waiting encompasses a series of mourning jewellery in which filigree images, written messages, children’s drawings, floral blueprints, and vanitas imagery come together.

The jewellery explores not only mourning but also the phase preceding it: holding on to memories, cherishing final moments of closeness, and learning to cope with the impending loss. Fragile fragments of memory are assembled into narrative jewellery. They honour life, even beyond death.

Discover Dilara’s work, alongside that by the other graduating Masters, this weekend as part of EXIT/26. For this edition, the exhibition expands into the city of Hasselt, with graduation projects from PXL-MAD School of Arts, LUCA School of Arts, and Hasselt University presented across five locations, and includes artist talks and other side events (for the full programme, visit the EXIT/26 website).

On 20 June 2026, we had the pleasure of sharing our Slightly Different Traditions, in live filigree demonstrations held at the in Campo Ligure, as part of the International Filigree Exhibition organised by the Municipality of Campo Ligure and hosted by the Carlo Bosio Filigree Museum.
Together, we (Bibi Klekachkoska, Susanne Matsché and Eva van Kempen) shared our individual approaches to filigree, demonstrating how a centuries-old technique continues to evolve through contemporary jewellery practice. Throughout the session, visitors had the opportunity to observe different methods, exchange ideas, and engage in conversations about craftsmanship, innovation and the future of filigree. من القطع المرتبطة بالحُلي المستخدمة في الزواج السوداني التقليدي، ويتميّز بتفاصيله الدقيقة المصنوعة بتقنية الـ Filigree، المعروفة محلياً باسم “الشَّفتشي”.
الشفتشي هو أسلوب قديم في صياغة الحُلي، يعتمد على تشكيل الأسلاك المعدنية الدقيقة وتشبيكها باللحام وفق تصميم مفرّغ من دون أرضية كاملة، لذلك جاءت تسميته من فكرة “أنه يشف ما خلفه”.
تعود جذور هذه التقنية في السودان إلى عصور ممالك كوش والنوبة، حيث ظهرت صياغة الذهب الدقيقة عبر الأسلاك المعدنية والزخارف المفرّغة في حُلي الملكات، قبل أن تستمر وتتطوّر لاحقاً في حُلي النساء والزواج التقليدي خلال فترات تاريخية مختلفة، منها فترة الحكم التركي، حيث امتزجت في تصاميم الحُلي التقليدية مع العملات المعدنية بأشكالها وأحجامها المختلفة.
ويظل حلق الفدوة جزءاً أصيلاً من الذاكرة والهوية والحضور الاجتماعي الذي انتقل عبر الأجيال.

Fidwa Sheftshy Earrings,
A traditional piece of adornment associated with Sudanese weddings, distinguished by its delicate details crafted using the Filigree technique, locally known in Sudan as “Sheftshy”.
Sheftshy is an ancient jewellery-making technique based on shaping and soldering fine metal wires into intricate openwork patterns without a solid background, giving the piece a light and transparent appearance as if “revealing what lies behind it”.
The roots of this technique in Sudan date back to the Kingdoms of Kush and Nubia, where fine goldwork appeared through intricate wirework and openwork ornamentation in the jewellery of queens.
Over time, the technique continued to evolve within women’s adornment and traditional wedding jewellery across different historical periods, including the Turkish era, when it became intertwined with traditional jewellery designs incorporating coins in different shapes and sizes.
Today, the Fidwa earrings remain part of a living memory, carrying identity, beauty, and social presence across generations.
