Very tough client who sat for a very, very long session to do this coverup. Having been working here for the last 6 months, I've been forced to condense two or three sessions worth of work into often just a single block of the day. You're lucky if you get to spend two or three sessions on a project, but I feel like the added pressure of time has helped me be less hesitant both in my design making but also in my application.

There's a few guys in western Canada that always blow me away with their speed. Damian, the Tex's, hope to be at their level of efficiency one day.

Looking forward to seeing what I can do with this new efficiency when tackling multi day projects back home:)

As far as we got yesterday on one heck of a walk-in! First attempt at realism in years. Forgot how much fun it is. looking forward to finishing the piece when I'm back in the west coast for a visit! Thanks for your trust man!

The variety of tattoos that I've gotten to do the last few months at Three Tides has been a really great experience. It's kind of like hitting the gym and targeting different muscles each day. Some days you're mostly working on line work. Other days you're working more on texture. Some on edges, ther days you're working more on color contrast. I just need to remember to take pictures haha.
Tiger Flash piece, available at. Lots of paintings coming soon, looking forward to sharing. Short post this time, need to spend more time making! ✌️
First color session on Yuri’s snake and tsubaki sleeve, one more layer to go.

Moving to Japan, I knew I wouldn’t be doing large-scale work as often. New country, new market, new clients. In many ways, it’s been back to square one, which has been a really good thing.

Walk-ins, small pieces, all kinds of requests, some styles I hadn’t touched in nearly ten years. I don't care what I tattoo, I'm just happy to be tattooing, and honored that people trust me to mark their bodies. Often, getting to talk to them is the best part of the job.

In just the last month I’ve tattooed an orthopedic surgeon, members of a Dutch Heavy Metal band, an architect, a chef, a video game developer, a sports statiscian, and someone who’s seen Tool play live 79 times. Tattoo subjects included Radish Yokai, Tuna, pine tree leg sleeve, watercolor dragons, cat portrait and English knights. Lots of great conversations, lots of random trivia and perspectives picked up along the way. Every small piece feeds back into the larger work.

Not every day is sunshine, but overall the dream has been better than expected. #tattoo #tattooartist #tattoojourney #tattoolifeďż˝ #japantattoo ďż˝ ďż˝ ďż˝
✨Big News✨
Yuki and I are so happy to finally share that this October we’ll be moving to Japan!
This has been years in the making.Lawyers, visas, building connections, guest spots, portfolio work, and language lessons, all leading to this moment. It’s been our shared dream for a long time, and now it’s becoming reality. Yuki is excited to be back home, and together we’re working toward our long-term goal of one day having a private studio

For now, you’ll find us in Osaka while I continue splitting time between Japan, Canada (Toronto & Vancouver), and Australia for guest spots.
One of my biggest motivations in taking this step is to grow as a tattooer. For years I’ve studied Japanese art, history, and culture, and while I’ve developed a process I’m proud of, now I want to refine the fundamentals—linework, shading, efficiency—by learning in the place best known for it. So expect seeing a very different type of work!

To my existing clients: don’t worry, your tattoos will be finished. I’ll be coming back to Canada regularly. And for anyone traveling to Japan, I’ll be offering a special discounted rate to help offset travel costs. If you’d like to wrap up a tattoo before we leave, please DM or email me to schedule.
Finally, if you’ve been to Japan and have any travel tips or spots to check out, I’d love to hear them!
A huge thank you to Yuki for pushing so hard over the last 4 years to make this possible, and for reminding me to accept what life offers instead of being afraid of failure.
Here’s to the next chapter 🌸
We all exchange energy.
Tyler came from Michigan. His back is by Hajin from South Korea. For this piece I was heavily inspired by Fibs of Puerto Rico, Michael J Kelly of America, and Shige of Japan. And ofcourse, Tyler himself! Please go check them out, and prepare for some good stuff!

Firstly, Michael J Kelly. He possess a remarkable sensitivity to tone, strong shapes and design. His research and developmental process made a remarkable impact on me the past few years. He makes honest, solid tattoos. I thought I was bored of seeing skulls......until I saw his!

Fibs' work the last few years has been memorizing to see. It's difficult to describe what genuineness and passion is, but you know it when you see it. His compositional work emboldened me and offered me the courage to TRUST BLACK. His work in one word: STYLE!

Shige, what more can be said. His amount of visual effects is staggering. Lost edges, light on dark linework, geometric patterns, transparency, abstract composition. On our last session, one of the last pieces we looked at that morning was of a ghost. It was incredibly light and subtle. For the subject, the effect was perfect. Subtlety of that degree takes tremendous courage, restraint and the forsight to plan for the future.

Last but not least, Tyler himself! Our sessions were exchanges of industry stories, references, art perspectives and an overall awesome mood. Every night you go home and tell your wife: Damn that was an awesome day of tattooing!

His growth through the years has been a treat to watch. Seeing those around you grow really lights your fire. You ask yourself, what am I bringing to the table? Am I being honest to myself? Am I taking risks? Am I make something vulnerable and unrefined for all those to see?

It takes courage to show your own work to the world, and it's a gift from the community to receive theirs.

We teach each other, we cheer each other along, we inspire each other. We all grow from one another.

This tattoo is brought to you by: community.
There are good days, and there are bad days. I’ve made some bad tattoos, and other times I’ve made pieces I can be happy with.

Despite my best intentions, every piece is a roll of the dice. I try my best in any endeavour, but I can admit when I could have done better. I will continue to streamline my process better, work on my weaknesses, and most importantly experiment with every piece. Hopefully by that point, I can be confident that I’ve attatined a unique voice, independent of my teachers and inspirations. My second ambition is to one day be proud of every single piece I make. Until then, I am a work in progress. I will falter. Some experiments will yield terrific results, others will instruct me what not to do.

Dupree’ s sleeve is a very experimental piece. I learnt a lot through it, pushed my comfort zone and am carrying those lessons into my current work. The gamble paid off really well. When Dupree asked to get his chest done, admittedly I feared I could not replicate the success of our first campaign.

It’s difficult to show up everyday and do your best, start strong, carry that momentum forward, and tie up all your loose ends. I suppose a fear of mine would be that if I achieved any less then what we did on the arm, it would be as clear as day. Thankfully, Dupree is ever trusting in my awkward process, gave me freedom and always has a great energy. He let me take my time, experiment in some areas and fall back on others. You put my anxious mind at ease Dupree. Thank you as always. #tattoo #tattoos #torontotattoo
