I initially took a little break due to the pandemic and wanting to preserve my mental health and reassess before I came back. Then my brother passed away. My world stopped spinning. And we took a lot of time to focus especially on family. Then we got pregnant with a little boy who is due next year. 🧡 Turns out pregnancy makes me incredibly sick and I could barely function for a while.
.
This year has had a lot of major highs and major lows. And this space no longer feels like what I should focus on, at least right now. We are of course continuing on with our efforts to reduce our waste, but I will no longer be posting about it here. So this may be my last post.
.
I cannot thank you all enough for making this page what it is. This experience has changed me forever. The friends I have made here have changed me forever. I will never forget the strangers who reached out to tell me they were praying for me and my family this year. ☀️ xo, Autumn

This is such a crazy time in the world right now. The loss of life is excruciating. And this quote keeps coming to my mind. I have seen greater goodness, selflessness and love from everyone around me since this pandemic/social distancing/quarantine began. What a beautiful thing that is. Stay safe. Stay home if you can. Thank you for working for us if you can’t stay home. We’re going to get through this. 🌍💛

+ At the thrift store there is only one of everything, so if I see something I like I place it in my cart and then think about it while I walk around. Gives me peace of mind since I sometimes suffer from “not-buyers-regret.” 😂
•
+ Keep a note on your phone with a list of items you are looking for. I usually have my eye out for a couple items of clothing and specific books, so when I go to a thrift store I always check those sections. It gives me focus so I don’t feel overwhelmed, especially if I am short on time.
•
+ Check the racks by the dressings rooms. Other people have already done the work of finding interesting items and I often come across thrift store gold there!
•
+ Find out which days have the best discounts and take advantage. 💯
•
+ Get creative. The thrift store is a great place to get cheap materials to assemble something that has been hard to find. For example, I needed white frames so I bought cheap frames from the thrift store and painted them white. Another time, I wanted a new skirt so I got a beautiful sheet and made one. Wanted a small basket to keep things in the bathroom organized, so I found a basket and broke off the handle to fit the need.
•
+ Honestly, my best tip might be to learn some simple sewing. It will open up a whole new world for you. Jeans perfect except for a little big on the waist? Dress a little too long? Weird buttons? Simple fixes that can completely change a piece! My very favorite pencil skirt used to be this long stretchy skirt I found at a thrift store in Utah. 💃🏼
•
And lastly, always ask yourself “Would I be interested in this if I saw it in a regular store? Or is it only interesting in comparison to the other weird stuff here?” 😂 Only buy things you truly love, no matter how cheap.

+ 1 oz container
+ 1 tbsp olive oil
+ 1/2 tbsp beeswax (or candelilla was)
+ 1/2 tbsp coconut oil
+ 5 drops vitamin e oil
+ 5 drops each roman chamomile, lavender, and frankincense essential oils
Melt everything but the essential oils together. Remove from heat and add essential oils. Pour into container and let it harden completely. Voilà!

I was sent two scents, Bliss (lemongrass, frankincense, lime) and Spring (lavender, geranium, lime).
•
I felt like the lemongrass one worked better for me and kept me smelling fresher longer. The geranium one not so much, but I am am hit and miss with floral scents and geranium is not my favorite.🤷🏼♀️

When I was first switching to a plastic-free/natural deodorant I discovered I am suuuuuuper sensitive to baking soda and it was difficult to find a deodorant that worked but didn’t include any. These deodorants from are free of baking of soda, so no worries there. 👍🏼 I have had zero irritation.
•
Overall, I’m glad I tried these. Finding deodorant that worked for my body was a huge struggle and it’s always so encouraging to find more options that work. 🙌🏼 And also comes in a paper tube I can toss in my compost. The best.
•
I was intrigued by the idea and figured that traveling over the holidays was the perfect time to reduce the liquids in my carry-on and try them out. I chose this brand because they contain fluoride and that’s important to me, but I did have to order them online.
•
Overall, not too bad. They are kind of weird and I had to consciously remind myself “I am not chewing this to eat, I am chewing this to brush my teeth” so I didn’t swallow it. 😂 They don’t foam the way toothpaste does. But! My teeth felt really clean and I didn’t have to worry about liquids in my carry-on. What more can you ask for?

(Oh also, packaging isn’t plastic. It’s paper. 👍🏼)
