I haven’t posted a photo on here in over a year.

Part of that is simple. I was sick for almost six months. Not dramatic, just this lingering kind of sick that wouldn’t leave. I could barely eat. Hiking felt hard. Some mornings I’d wake up already exhausted and wonder if this was just my new normal.

The other honest part is that I do social media for work. I spend most of my time growing other people’s brands and telling their stories. Somewhere along the way it became more rewarding to watch my clients’ accounts grow than to grow my own.So posting for myself started to feel unnecessary.

I’d shoot film, get the scans back, and just keep them. The moments felt complete without being shared.Because these photos aren’t really photos to me.

They’re sore feet after miles on the trail.
Sweaty foreheads and salt-stained shirts.
Cold mornings and hangry afternoons.
Endless laughs with friends while chasing the last bit of light.

The memories are always bigger than the frame.

The last year also forced me to slow down and take a more honest look at my health, my relationships, my work, and myself. A lot of that work happened quietly. But I’m realizing something lately, just because something feels enough for me doesn’t mean it can’t still be shared.

If I could title these shots, I would title them "completely immersed" because that's exactly what I was doing. I was immersed in the landspace, although I will admit, I had no idea how these photos would turn out on film. I was immersed in the phone conversation I was having while shooting these photos, and just walking around outside of our van in the cold and enjoying the fog rolling along the hills. It's funny how some images, you'll never forget exactly what you were doing before you took the shot. You will never forget the sound of the person's voice you were talking to on the phone. You won't forget how you felt. You won't forget how cold you were and how you just wanted to be lost in the moment for as long as time would allow. I hope all of you find yourself getting lost in the moments that Mother Nature creates. I hope you spend more time watching and enjoying it more than anything else. I hope you fall in love with every single landscape you lay your eyes on. And I hope you spend your travel moments exactly how you want to spend them. I hope you remember how you felt and the person that made you feel that way.

It’s been 6 months since I turned in one roll of film to get developed. 6 months and 19 rolls later, here we are. 6 months of a small part of my life captured through pictures. Pictures of new friends, pictures of old friends, pictures of one of the most beautiful sunsets I’ve ever seen in my life. Images of Yosemite, where I met some of the most down-to-earth people because of a social media app that I hate sometimes. Pictures of people that have come into my life and changed it in such a short time. These photos, to most of you, are just photos of a pretty landscape and the people I got to share them with, but to me, they are memories I’ll never forget. Memories I’ll look back on and smile. Memories that most of the fun times weren’t captured in the photos; they were living behind the scenes. For me, it’s become less about the perfect shot. And more about the connections brought from the shot. More about being creative and having that space to roam and let my creative juices flow. I know most of you won’t read this far. But if you did, thank you. I’ve felt for a long time that I never needed to rush to get my photos back. That’s just me, though. So here’s to 19 rolls of film. Here’s to the smallest part of my life and some of the biggest moments of my life being shared. I can’t wait to see what the next 6 months bring.
