The remote cabins tucked away in the mountains were one of the highlights of my trip with and I especially loved the 3 nights we spent at the Halfway Lodge.

This lodge was built in the 1920s and served as a stopover for guests making the journey from Banff to Mount Assiniboine.

The place is off-grid with a woodburning stove that crackles in the evening, an outdoor shower with epic forest views, and a log table that gathers riders for communal home-cooked meals.

Not a whole lot has changed in this cabin since it was built - just the second-story addition after a bear dropped in through the old roof!

It wasn't all horseback riding on my trip with. During our rest day at the Halfway Lodge, our group decided to embark on a hike to Lake Matthias.

We departed from the lodge and followed the sometimes invisible trail through thick shrubbery, across creeks, past waterfalls, and up the steep mountainside.

And when we thought our legs were going to drop, we arrived!

The reward was this spectacular alpine lake flanked by forest and jagged peaks. It was well worth the effort, and once again, I was blown away by the beauty of the Canadian Rockies.

If there's one day that took my breath away on my 6-day trip with, it was the day we rode up to the Allenby Pass.

We left the Halfway Lodge behind, rode out of the valley, and climbed the 2440-metre-high mountain pass for unbelievable views.

The forest gave way to shrubbery, and then the mountain became bare, giving way to jagged peaks.

It was a side of Banff National Park that I had never seen before, and a sight I won't soon forget.

This summer, we had the opportunity to test out the OM-1 Mark II. 📸

So, we loaded up the car and drove down to Waterton Lakes National Park, one of our favourite parks in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. ⛰️

We photographed a few spots like the Bison Paddock (a small detour just before entering the park), Cameron Falls and Waterton Lakes! 🦬

Along the way, we tested out some of the camera features, like:
- Live ND (Live Neutral Density), which is great for blurring water and clouds to achieve a long exposure effect.
- Live GND (Live Graduated Neutral Density), which we can use to darken the sky and other bright areas in the image.
- High-Res Mode, which allows us to shoot handheld at 50 megapixels or on a tripod at 80 megapixels. This is a great feature for capturing detailed images, as it shoots 16 overlapping shots that are then composited in-camera.

The full video is on YouTube if you'd like a more in-depth look at the camera features. 🎥

I just got back from the adventure of a lifetime with! 🌲⛰️

Deep in the heart of Banff National Park, we ventured far beyond the crowds, riding through rugged backcountry trails, crossing creeks, and marvelling at postcard-perfect alpine valleys surrounded by epic mountain peaks.

We arrived at remote, historic lodges nestled in the wilderness. Think rustic charm, cozy fireplaces, and wine-infused evenings with free-flowing conversation.

But what truly made this trip special was the incredible camaraderie: delicious meals, laughter around the campfire, and the warmth and genuine hospitality of both our group and the amazing guides and support staff who led us every step of the way.

It's the kind of reset I needed. Offline, off-grid and out in nature. That's what this horse-trekking adventure was all about.

Here are some of my favourite photos from the adventure.

Our dearest TOGO left us yesterday. He gave us almost 10 years, and yet a lifetime wouldn't have been enough. ❤️🐾

He was my father's confidant, he demanded belly rubs first thing in the morning, he was a gourmand who loved steak but turned his nose up at ground beef, and he knew how to swindle treats out of every family member. He was obsessed with water, whether he was getting sprayed with the garden hose or diving headfirst into the lake. And no football ever lasted more than 5 minutes around him, because a ball wasn't quite right for play until it was punctured.

But most importantly, Togo loved being with his family - it didn't matter if we were going for a walk or running errands in town, he always wanted to come along. He was the first to jump in the car, and if he stayed home, he was the first to welcome us back.

Once Togo joined the family, our travel style changed, and road trips became the norm. It began with winter escapes to the cottage, where he could be a wolf in the woods. Then his first big road trip to the Rockies for a taste of wooded trails and alpine lakes. These trips were always a challenge because Togo couldn't stand the sound of the turn signal, yet he managed to travel across Canada!

My parents' retirement in the Rockies was in great part inspired by Togo. They wanted to give him open space and wilderness, and he got to enjoy 3 blissful years in the mountains! Going from the suburbs to rural living was the easiest transition! Summers were spent swimming at the lake, winters rolling in the snow, and he even got to see his fair share of excitement running after deer and chasing the odd black bear up a tree. He never did manage to catch the ever-elusive chipmunks on the rock wall.

Togo got to watch 5 babies join the family, sniffing each newcomer and welcoming them to the pack. He was the first to detect a dirty diaper on a newborn, and he let the toddlers crawl all over him and snuggle in his fur - a true gentle giant.

He leaves a gaping hole in our hearts that won't ever be replaced by another. We look back on the years together; he really lived a dream life, and he deserved it.

We love you, Toguchi. We won't ever forget you.
Just back from Alaska! 🌲🐻🦀

We couldn't come to Ketchickan and not try the crab! Yes, this may be the salmon capital of the world, but the Dungeness Crab is another local specialty.

This is a type of crab found on the west coast of North America, extending from Alaska's Aleutian Islands all the way down to California.

We booked the Crab Feast Lunch via and drove out to a lodge.

On the driver over, we even saw whales! The timing was impeccable.

As for the meal, we started off with a salad, and that was followed by an all-you-can-eat crab feast. The meat was sweet and delicate, and it tasted delicious dunked in butter!

Our host even got a bit of a competition going. Who can build the highest tower using crab shells and whatever else we could find at the table?

This was a super fun food tour during our port of call in Ketchikan, and we made it back to the cruise ship with time to spare!

Our darling baby girl arrived into our lives this Canadian Thanksgiving weekend. There aren't enough words to express how grateful and in love we are with her.

Nuestra querida hija llegó al mundo este pasado fin de semana (Día de Acción de Gracias en Canadá). Decir que estamos enamorados y agradecidos es poco.
Ten years ago today, we promised each other a lifetime of adventures and friendship, and what an adventure it has been. Happy 10th wedding anniversary, bunny! 😊🥂✨

Hoy hace diez años que nos prometimos una vida de aventuras y amistad, ¡y qué aventura ha sido! ¡Feliz décimo aniversario de bodas!
