The artist brief was one: to explore his own expression in type form, which for me sounds like a request for clarity in statement. The visual solution was already in his letter work that were then deconstructed for the purpose of the book, and at the same time amplify Tony’s work through letters. The letters are supported by two typefaces Roumald and Repro, and the system once again was to let words run free, to liberate rather than to redact, mirroring the artist’s pursuit in shedding light on cultural misrepresentation of Aboriginal people.
The book edges say Past, Present, Future, the confine of the topics explored inside and the materiality relies on metallic surface and ink, a contrast to Tony’s textural work and an ode to his life as an ‘Australien’.
Edited by published by with the support of - the monograph is out now, in conjunction with a retrospective show at opening tonight, titled ‘Not A Souvenir’.
Congratulations Tony! Thank you Tony for the optimism you live and share with us, we love you! 🖤❤️💛

‘Sanctum’ by Mark C. O’Flaherty is an exploration of homes shaped by memory, obsession, beauty and decay. The spaces where the uncanny lingers in every texture, object and shadow.
Featuring the homes of Agnès B, Simon Costin, Philip Lim and Pol Theis, these are interiors filled with theatrical relics, architectural salvage, memento mori and stories that refuse to disappear.
‘Sanctum’ celebrates the flawed, the aged and the deeply personal: rooms that feel as though they existed long before their inhabitants arrived and will endure long after they leave.
With a foreword by artist and designer Luke Edward Hall, ‘Sanctum’ is a book about homes that contain a past life, transformed and reinterpreted by the people who live in them now.
You can buy ‘interior design’, but the uncanny has to be fostered.
‘Sanctum’ publishes 10 September in the UK and Australia, and 6 October in the US.

The woman who began this garden a hundred years ago adored the colour pink, and it is in this flush of abundant colour that it seems her soul remains here to this day. Now in the custodianship of two horticulturalists, Sarah and Andrew Ryan, they too have left their own marks on the land.
Photographer and author, Hannah Puechmarin of The Garden Room captures their glasshouse – brimming with an array of succulents, fuchsias and geraniums potted in simple terracotta.
