بزرگترین تراژدیِ انسانِ مدرن این نیست که تحت ستم است،
بلکه این است که فراموش کرده بین آزادی و رهایی تفاوت عمده وجود دارد!
در نگاه هانا آرنت:
۱. رهایی (Liberation)؛ «آزادی از...»
رهایی یک وضعیت سلبی یا منفی است. یعنی تو از دست چیزی که مانع تو بوده، خلاص میشوی.
هدف: از بین بردنِ زنجیر، ظلم، گرسنگی، یا استبداد.
ماهیت: رهایی یعنی تمام شدنِ یک رنج. وقتی یک زندانی از بند آزاد میشود یا یک ملت دیکتاتور را سرنگون میکند، آنها «رها» شدهاند.
محدودیت: رهایی به تنهایی کافی نیست. تو میتوانی از زندان رها شوی، اما در خیابان سرگردان باشی و ندانی چه کنی.
۲. آزادی (Freedom)؛ «آزادی برای...»
آزادی یک وضعیت ایجابی یا مثبت است. آزادی تازه از جایی شروع میشود که «رهایی» تمام شده باشد.
هدف: تواناییِ شروع کردنِ یک کار جدید، مشارکت در جامعه و ساختنِ جهان.
ماهیت: آزادی یعنی داشتنِ حقِ انتخاب و قدرتِ «عمل کردن» در میان دیگران.
شرط اصلی: آزادی برخلاف رهایی، در تنهایی ممکن نیست. تو برای آزاد بودن به «دیگران» نیاز داری تا حرفت را بشنوند و با هم چیزی را تغییر دهید.
پانوشت: تغییر نیازمند آگاهی است

این اثر مانیفستی بصری از تداوم خیزش زن زندگی آزادی است که اکنون به وقایع ۱۸ و ۱۹ دی ماه پیوند خورده است. روایتی از روح جمعی مردمی که برای شکستن زنجیر استبداد ایستادهاند. تصویرگر شکوه مادرانی که بر مزار فرزندانشان رقصیدند تا بگویند: سوگواری که فرزندش را فدای آزادی کرده فرو نمیریزد؛ او سرافراز میایستد و با ریتم رهایی میرقصد.

در قلب کلیسای نوتردام، مردی زندگی میکند به نام کوازیمودو؛ گوژپشت، ناشنوا و متفاوت—کسی که جامعه او را پس زده است. تمام دنیایش ناقوسهای کلیساست.
سرپرستش، کشیشی به نام فرولو است؛ مردی که میان ایمان، قدرت و وسوسه در کشمکش است.
روزی دختری کولی و آزاد به نام اسمرالدا وارد داستان میشود؛ دختری که میرقصد، میخندد و زندگی را با تمام وجود حس میکند—چیزی که تقریباً هیچکس در این داستان ندارد.
اما با ورود او، همه چیز تغییر میکند:
فرولو شیفتهی او میشود، اما با عشقی تاریک و وسواسگونه
کوازیمودو عاشقش میشود، اما با مهربانی و سکوت
و مردی دیگر، فوبوس، دل اسمرالدا را میبرد—اما سطحی و بیتعهد
ماجرا کمکم به سمت تراژدی میرود.
اسمرالدا به ناحق متهم میشود،
جامعهای که از زیباییاش لذت میبرد، حالا او را محکوم میکند،
و تنها کسی که واقعاً برایش میایستد، همان کسی است که همه از او میترسند.
او اسمرالدا را به داخل کلیسا میبرد و از او محافظت میکند.
اما این داستان، پایان خوش کلاسیک ندارد.
عشقهای یکطرفه، قدرت، مذهب و قضاوتهای بیرحمانه، سرنوشت شخصیتها را به فاجعه میکشاند.
در نهایت، چیزی که باقی میماند:
زیباییای که قربانی میشود،
عشقی که دیده نمیشود،
و انسانی که فقط به خاطر ظاهرش، از انسان بودن محروم شده است.
ویکتور هوگو انسان رو با این سوال تنها می ذاره ؛ چه کسی واقعاً “هیولا”ست؟
کسی که ظاهرش متفاوت است؟ یا جامعهای که نمیتواند تفاوت را تحمل کند ؟

در اساطیر آمده است که چون عمر ققنوس به پایان نزدیک میشود، هیزم بسیار گرد میآورد، بر فراز آن مینشیند و چنان آواز غمناک و دلکشی سر میدهد که مرغان دیگر گرد او جمع میشوند. سپس با بالزدنی مستانه، آتشی میافروزد و خود را در میان آن خاکستر میکند؛ اما این پایان نیست. از دل آن خاکستر گرم، ققنوس جوانی متولد میشود تا زندگی را از سر بگیرد.
در روزگارانی که تاریکی سایه میگسترد، ققنوس نمادِ تمدن و انسانهایی است که هر بار آنها را شکستند، قویتر برخاستند. او یادآور این حقیقت است که:
«مستبد میتواند بالها را بسوزاند، اما نمیتواند پرواز را از حافظهی خاکستر پاک کند.»
ققنوس بودن، یعنی نترسیدن از تغییر؛ یعنی ایمان به اینکه زیباترین ورژنِ ما، درست زمانی متولد میشود که تصور میکردیم همهچیز تمام شده است.
