No matter how many times I visit Montreal, it never fails to deliver on good eats 😋

This is probably my 7th visit + I revisited some fav spots as well as discovered new restaurants that I will most definitely be returning to on future trips to Montreal.

My toxic trait is sometimes I just need a brothless ramen 🍜✨

Enter: Abura soba. It’s Tokyo’s saucy, soup-less noodle and my personal dignity saver. When I was staying in **Shibuya**, this **budget-friendly abura soba shop** became my go-to. Right around the corner from the Don Quixote, it’s the perfect quick bite after an exhausting shopping haul.

The best part is that it’s the same price whether you get a regular, large, extra-large or an extra EXTRA large serving of noodles. I went with the classic shio abura soba, loaded with chashu, bamboo shoots, scallions, narutomaki, nori, and sesame. But the real star is the rich tare of soy sauce, pork fat, and garlic coating those springy wheat noodles. Mix, taste, then tweak to your preference.

2025 sucked.

That’s not to say that nothing good happened but they were overshadowed by the greatest loss. And with that loss went my sense of self, safety and peace of mind.

But the good news is that it’s over (the year, not the grief) so here are 5 things I want to remember going into 2026:

I’m stronger than I think 💪🏼
I never wanted to know that I was this strong. And by strong I mean I am still here. Not thriving, not living but surviving at least. And even just doing that is so much more than I thought I would be able to after the year I’ve had.

Love is worth it 💕
Some people’s capacity for love is a cup. Some is a gallon. If grief is born from love, then I learned that mine is as endless as the ocean. But even knowing how painful loss can be, I’d do it all over again.

Being kind to yourself is not weak 🫂
Letting yourself feel what you feel without judgement, not chasing people who don’t meet you halfway, allowing yourself to rest instead of being “productive”. Whatever form kindness takes, give it to yourself first.

Self loyalty is a practice 🤝
I realized that I self abandon is so many little ways — ignoring my intuition to keep the peace, people pleasing, chasing connections that lack reciprocity. Staying true to yourself is not a state of being so like with anything, it requires practice to get better.

People who want to be there will be there 👯‍♀️
And the people who don’t…let them go.

2025 was full of hard lessons but here’s hoping they were seeds planted for a better 2026!

You can’t go to Osaka without dreaming of the streetfood that fills Dotonbori — steaming hot takoyaki, crispy gyoza, savoury okonomiyaki…

But nothing stresses me out more than standing while eating (how will I take photos of my food?!😆) so as much as I marvelled at the fantastical signage and neon lights, I bypassed the bustling entertainment district to the relatively quiet Shinsaibashi quarter to Kawafuku Honten.

Founded in the 1960s, this traditional udon restaurant in Osaka serves up serious Michelin energy alongside handmade noodles. They’re often described as ‘the birthplace of zaru udon’ which is a style where the udon is served chilled on a bamboo tray.

I’m obsessed with pollack roe so ofc I ordered the spicy welleye pollack roe soup for **¥1580** but if that’s not your thing, they have plenty of options. The mapo tofu one looked 🔥

Cooking With Mr Yum Yum — Episode 1: Angel Hair Crab Pasta🍴💌

This series is something I had wanted to do for a long time when I had the luxury of believing that I had all the time in the world to do it. So I’m doing it now. Because he loved to feed me and our family. And I wanted to share that with you because grief demands a witness.

My dad got this Angel Hair Crab Pasta recipe from the Wolfgang Puck cookbook. He must’ve tasted it for the first time at Spago or met the chef in person because he had a signed copy. I love crab 🦀 anything and despite it being quite a rich sauce (so much cream and butter 🧈) the thin capellini makes it oh-so eatable. As in, I could eat an enough pot by myself easily (to the detriment of my cholesterol).

*Disclaimer: I am not a chef (or even an amateur chef) so pls don’t judge me if you find my cooking skills lacking. I am merely a girl who loves her dad and has to feed herself out of necessity.

The best meals I’ve ever had in my life were all cooked by Mr Yum Yum (aka my dad). I sure talk about it enough so I figured I’d show you everything he cooked for me during a long weekend at the cottage 🍝🥪🍳
