After our recent TV appearance, many of you reached out to me about my mental health journey, particularly my battle with severe emetophobia.
What many people don’t realise is that if I hadn’t overcome that fear all those years ago, this sanctuary simply wouldn’t exist.
Back then, my world had become very small. I was controlled by anxiety, fear, and limiting beliefs that affected almost every decision I made. Going through the Thrive Programme played a huge role in helping me change that.
Ten years later, that journey has led to something I never thought possible: a sanctuary full of rescued animals, an incredible community, and a life I once couldn’t even imagine living.
Which is why I’m so excited to share that Thrive and I are starting a new journey together. 🤍
A box of goodies arrived this week, and while I’m keeping the details under wraps for now, I can’t wait to tell you more.

Some volunteers leave a mark long after they’ve gone home.
Toni was once a volunteer here at the sanctuary, helping wherever she could and becoming part of the finca community. Even after leaving Tenerife, she has continued supporting the animals from afar.
This week she donated a used iPhone, which will now become one of our office phones and help us stay connected with adopters, visitors, volunteers and rescue cases.
It might seem like a small thing, but behind the scenes, donations like these make a real difference to the day-to-day running of the sanctuary.

Today, Tash from our Animal Welfare team is explaining a little more about feline leukaemia (FeLV) and why it has become one of the biggest challenges facing cat rescues across Tenerife.
FeLV-positive cats are often overlooked simply because of their diagnosis.
Yet many of them are still happy, loving cats who deserve safety, comfort and the chance to live full lives.
Sadly, we’re seeing more and more FeLV-positive cats needing help, while our dedicated leukaemia areas are already full.
Education, testing, vaccination and responsible ownership all play an important role in reducing the spread of this disease and helping fewer cats end up abandoned.
We hope this video helps answer some common questions and encourages more understanding for cats like Georgina and so many others. 🤍

Gucci is an 8-year-old Shar Pei looking for a second chance.
Unlike many rescue dogs, Gucci didn’t come from neglect or abandonment. She was deeply loved by her family, but due to changes in their housing situation they could no longer keep her.
Since arriving at the sanctuary, Gucci has been trying to adjust to a completely different life. As a Shar Pei, she has sensitive skin and shelter life isn’t ideal for her long-term wellbeing.
According to her previous family, Gucci has lived happily around people and children. She is good with other dogs, especially off lead, but would need a cat-free home. She can be sensitive around her ears and may become nervous during veterinary handling, so she is looking for a patient adopter who understands that trust takes time.
What we see in Gucci is a sweet dog who is navigating a huge life change and deserves the chance to settle into a loving home once again.

If you walk through the cattery, there’s a good chance you won’t notice her straight away.
She’s not the cat climbing onto your lap or demanding attention. Georgina prefers to sit quietly nearby, watching everything that’s going on around her.
A little while ago, Georgina tested positive for feline leukaemia (FeLV).
Sadly, a diagnosis like this often means cats are overlooked before people even get to know them. And that’s a shame, because Georgina is so much more than a test result.
She’s beautiful, gentle and slowly learning that people can be trusted.
On Wednesday, we’ll be sharing a little more about FeLV and why cats like Georgina deserve to be seen for who they are, not just for the diagnosis they carry.
For today, we’d simply love for more people to meet her. 🤍

In this video, Nuria begins the trimming process by removing the hoof boot, cleaning the hoof, and carefully trimming away excess material using tools kindly donated by Equine Care USA.
Every hoof is different, and every trim is about finding balance while working with the horse in front of you.

Live on-site in our rustic sanctuary community for a minimum of 3 months.
You’ll contribute around 25 hours per week in exchange for food and accommodation.
This is a hands-on experience: working closely with our horses every day, learning their language, their boundaries, their trust.
It’s not just about helping.
It’s about becoming part of the rhythm here.
