The concert before the concert.
Very soon we will be getting ready for rehearsal night, the final step before our official comeback in St Mark’s Square. Starting at 9.00 pm tomorrow, we will be joining our audience once again to share the music, in a place where every note takes on a special meaning.
Maestro Kevin Rhodes will be conducting, together with choirmaster Alfonso Caiani. Joining them are soprano Sara Cortolezzis and the speaking voices of Luca Barbareschi and Cesare Bocci.
We wish everyone listening to us this evening as they make their way through Venice a pleasant listening experience. To everyone else, we look forward to seeing you tomorrow

Ennio Morricone did not emulate anyone else’s style to express his inspiration as music. His memorable and captivating melodies reflected his deep musical knowledge.
As he stated, his main reference points were Stravinsky and Mahler, as well as the significant figure of his mentor, Goffredo Petrassi. From Stravinsky he learned the importance of structure and sound invention; from Mahler, the symphonic spirit and expressive intensity; and from Petrassi, the rules of musical composition and strict adherence to the structure.
That's why his music keeps moving us: behind the exciting brightness of his melodies, there's a musical language of remarkable complexity that touches everyone but never gives up the best artistic quality

Mars, the god of war, devises a plan to get rid of Adonis and win back Venus’s favour, enlisting the help of Eros/Cupid, his son. The blind god tries to resist Mars’s demands, replying that Venus is happy and that they are madly in love. Mars, however, leaves the young god no way out.
In Sciarrino’s interpretation, the characters’ weaknesses are highlighted: Adonis is mortal, and the gods are at the mercy of their own selfishness.

This is the Italian premiere of Salvatore Sciarrino’s "Venere e Adone". Sciarrino has a long-standing relationship with La Fenice: in the late 1960s and early 1970s, he premiered some of his earliest works at our theatre, before staging (in 1977) the myth of "Cupid and Psyche".
Following its world premiere in Hamburg in 2023, Salvatore Sciarrino returns to Venice with a fresh take on Adonis and Venus, an ancient myth with contemporary relevance. It is the story of a mortal at the mercy of the gods, who toy with his fate amidst love, jealousy and revenge.

The composer Salvatore Sciarrino and conductor Kent Nagano, who will be conducting our Orchestra, are joining forces for the staging of "Venere e Adone".
From the 26 June at 7.00 pm, will be possible to attend the Italian premiere of this intense and rich in symbolism opera, in which Sciarrino’s musical composition reinterprets the ancient myth for a contemporary audience.
